RE: What Language is used to program Distant Worlds?

<t> 5% can make a huge difference in game programming, where you want to squeeze everything out of your customer's computers you can get.<br/>
When I said that using VB.NET or C# wouldn't really make a difference, I was of course referring to the end result, but I assumed that this much was obvious ...

RE: What Language is used to program Distant Worlds?

When DW came out, I had a critical error once. I think I saw a bit of VB stuff in the call stack.
Either way, it doesn't really matter - .NET is .NET. So if you use VB or C# or whatever doesn't really make a difference. It all results in CIL/CLR anyway.

multiplayer would be awesome, but then you probably wouldn't be able to adjust speed...can you imagine DW without a pause-function? or the ability to go to 4x speed?

RE: 1.0.5 Update Plans

I know, that's why a correct implementation of dragging is usually mapped to the middle mouse-button, as it often has no other function..that way you won't accidentally select stuff or create orders...

RE: 1.0.5 Update Plans

hey,
the point is not that i can't use edge scrolling efficiently - i wouldn't use it if keyboard scrolling would be fixed ;)
however, a map-drag option would work as well and actually be pretty great.

<t> hey erik,<br/>
i am not sure if it was mentioned before, but i have a multi-monitor setup. when i play distant worlds, it wont mouse-scroll in the direction of my second monitor.<br/>
normally this wouldn't be a big deal, as i would scroll mostly with my keyboard, but keyboard scrolling is ...

RE: Distant Worlds Updated Again!

<t> Hey Erik,<br/>
awesome work with the patches so far. However, what bugs me most at the moment is that when I tell one of my fleets to patrol a system, they will do so and then stop after a while.<br/>
Am I doing something wrong? Because I would really like to be able to build a fleet that ...

RE: Is there a point in having multiple research stations in a black hole?

I think the maximum research potential only happens to be higher than your actual output when using research stations with old components. I could be wrong though, but I though I saw something like this happen in one of my recent games.

try to right-click the star of the system you wish the fleet to patrol. i think there is an option in the context menu for that.

RE: Savefile with Mining Stations becoming detached from their planets.

<t> I have had this once. It was caused by my construction ship getting attacked by a pirate during the construction process. It cancelled construction and tried to escape, but later on returned and tried to build the same base, just detached from the planet this time while the original base was ...

RE: Retrofitting of Starbases

<t> Erik just explained in another threat that retrofitting deep-space bases currently is not possible, but will probably be changed in the future. That being said: retrofitting orbital bases happens just like construction would - from the planet's surface. If you try to retrofit a lot of ships at ...

RE: Obsolete designs chosen by the AI?

<t> Erik, I haven't tried it, but I believe this also applies if you delete the original design.<br/>
I made a test last night, trying to get my head into efficient ship design. When I redesigned all my military ships, I didn't just mark the original designs as obsolete, but I deleted them so they ...

<r> Hm,<br/>
I just designed a capital ship with a docking bay, cargo bay, ship yard and one of each production facility. yet it seems that it cannot build ships.<br/>
it would be really interesting from a strategic point of view if this were possible. some kind of mobile construction yard. <E ...
