Re: I love this game! But some things that don't seem to work...

Regarding the ship upgrades...I am not sure how heuristic the ship upgrade process really is. I think that the automatic designer probably picks from a vast list of pre-made models, possibly automatically swapping certain components that are mere upgrades of the same component (i.e. fuel cells).

So ...

the ability to manage single resources without clicking through 15 different buttons in Policies and Automation, and possibly a way to set default stockpile values and refueling thresholds through the ship designer.

Re: How to get colonies to grow?

I read all the squirmy explanations to try to explain this issue away as "normal"

but

the automation should be perfectly able to quickly raise population levels to something sustainable. If there is some profound problem (suitability) that will severely limit colony growth in the future ...

Re: Thesis: The rate of consumption of goods is too high for freight travel time in most game galaxy scenarios.

Great analysis!

My (noobish) observation here is: Does it all matter?

It is entirely impossible to keep track of the MILLIONS of different goods in the game, it appears that they are just added to have MOAR stuff - the gameplay is not enhanced by having dozens of goods. It is just fluff ...

Re: [1.0.3.4] Is it normal for defensive armies to appear from nowhere?

I think there is a bit more here than meets the eye - like why do I see troop strength of the system on the data tag, but not when I click on the individual colony (no intelligence data on troop strength).

There should be fairly hard data on troop composition, including how many militia to expect ...

Re: [1.0.3.4] Extremely frustrating fuel issues

I would like to add that I also see problems with fuel management in my fleets - and this has been a problem in DW1 as well.

I have a fleet that is dispersed all over my empire, several ships out of fuel, limping halfway across the galaxy to join up with the fleet (instead of getting some gas at ...

RE: Is there too much money in this game?

<t> I still don´t understand why so many people have a problem with winning the game? If you make so much money that you can buy whatever you want, you have won. Why add "mysterious" events that take your money away? <br/>

<r> You have to look at the bottom line - the outcome of the other race´s "internal calculation". <br/>

You get to see all the relevant factors - trade, basic likes and dislikes, common friends and enemies - and yes, also "coveting of resources".<br/>

RE: Position of Orbitalstations ? Random ?

<t> When the station is built by the planet (it´s population) itself, just right-click on the exact position you want it, then select "build XYZ station here). It might work the same with a constructor, select first, then right-click in exact position (not sure about that one).<br/>

RE: Why I stopped playing Distant Worlds

<t> Agree on the difficulty.<br/>
<br/>
Disagree on the Diplomacy AI. I get into alliances easy with the other races - and also feel that it´s quite natural for "friends" to estrange if their goals start to diverge. Friendship works on equal terms - if you start to pull ahead or even infringe on ...

RE: Manufacturing Plants

<t> It´s another example of where "role-playing" superseeded "gameplay". Just like building a ship from scratch - you can´t build one without a command bridge (or whatever its called) - so why not just do away with that requirement? There is no decision to be made here - just some tedious button ...

I see the new AI custom designs feature working perfectly fine alongside this Design Policy screen. The custom shipsets save me having to create my ship designs anew every game. The AIs can also have strong ship/base designs.
