Re: AE not loading armaments

Thanks for responses. I did not know that AEs need to be loaded with supplies. I thought they were like AVPs and such.

AE not loading armaments

Hi All:

Haven't been posting much, but playing some. Ran into a problem.

It's October 20, 1942, I'm playing US, advancing up the Solomons. Suddenly, my AE ships at Lunga and New Caledonia will not load my BBs with heavy shells or my Air Combat TFs with torpedoes. Both have 400K+ supply levels ...

Re: AVG units

I don't see any withdrawal dates for the AVG in my game, so I guess they do not go away and come back later. You can transfer the pilots you want to keep to the General Reserve (as opposed to the Group Reserve). After a delay they will be available as veterans that you can put into vacant pilot ...

AVG units

Do the AVG squadrons in Burma and China eventually disappear and return as USAAF and Marine squadrons somewhere? I seem to remember someone mentioning this. When does it happen, if it does? Some of those pilots have piled up a lot of kills and experience.

Re: CVE question

The Escort/CAP ratio plays a very big part in the calculations determining if a mission sorties.

Given that only a small squadron of attack planes can be operationally placed on the LI with no possibility of any Escorts, it would be very unlikely to launch a strike without another carrier ...

CVE question

I have the first CVE (Long Island) around Darwin, after escorting a convoy there. Several IJN transport/maybe invasion fleets appeared just then, south of Java. It’s September 02, 1942. I sent Long Island north to cause some havoc but even within 3 hexes, she won’t launch the 18 SBDs she has, which ...

Carrier Aircraft Replenishment from CVE

Playing Allied in August 1942, the second of the CVEs have arrived on the West Coast, with 24 F4Fs and 24 SBDs. I want to use these to reinforce my carrier groups.

Do I set the TF to Replenishment?

Re: Carrier air groups have vanished

I keep hoping he will provide the names of these Marine air groups that have doppelgängered into Noumea in place of the Saratoga air groups. Then we could determine if they were regular reinforcements that maybe jumped the queue or something that popped into the game from the Bermuda Three ...

Re: Carrier air groups have vanished

That doesn't explain how the Marine air squadrons got there though. I wonder if he has not patched the game from it's initial release version or has patched to the new 1127Beta and then back to the 1126a or 1126B version. That could play heck with the database.

I keep hoping he will provide ...

Re: Carrier Wildcat replacements

Good tip about retro upgrading. I guess the high political points cost was implemented to prevent just that. It is a bit gamey. Who downgrades to a worse aircraft? I’ll still try it.

I do downgrade. I would rather have a full complement of Buffaloes for rear area CAP as well as training ...

Re: Carrier air groups have vanished

So, CV Saratoga took a torpedo, 30 flotation damage, (snip for emphasis)

Did the carrier have, in total, 50 plus damage of any/all types, and did it have aircraft aloft on ops at the time it was hit?

No, a single torpedo, 31 Flotation damage. I then sailed Saratoga to Noumea. Two days ...

Re: Carrier Wildcat replacements

When a carrier is undergoing a lengthy upgrade in a shipyard I'll often shore base it's air groups in other locations to do additional fighter cover or ASW/Search.

That’s exactly my point! Thank you! That’s what SHOULD happen. I did that, transferred three of my air groups from Saratoga at ...

Re: Carrier Wildcat replacements

This is incorrect. Carrier based aircraft can get replacements if the base they are at has an AF >=1 and >20K supply + the cost of the aircraft. It does not matter if the cv is dock, undocked or disbanded. See here https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10683&t=405854

Re: Carrier air groups have vanished

This makes me think your playing a small scenario such as Guadalcanal which does.

I figure it has to be the grand campaign scenario as he mentions sending the Saratoga to Los Angeles and in a post a few days prior mentioned Wildcat aircraft accumulating at bases on the West Coast and Pearl ...

Carrier air groups have vanished

So, CV Saratoga took a torpedo, 30 flotation damage, and Sydney and Pearl shipyards were jammed, so I decided to send her to Los Angeles. I off loaded 3 of the four air groups at Noumea to just keep training and kept the Avengers as an ASW group.

But now the 3 Saratoga air groups have vanished ...

I don’t even know what this means. By spamming do you mean I’ve asked once before about this, months ago?

I think he's referring to this post having cloned a few times on the forum. However, this can happen unintentionally sometimes too.

I wondered. I was in a coffee shop with weird ...
