RE: carrier aircraft

<r>
<QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>The deal is that if I do this the system gets overly complex. Then we see players baiting CV fleets to destroy them because players can't answer for all conditions. It was incredibly challenging to design a naval system that worked well when you don't have a chance to ...

RE: CV not attacking sub?

I'm not so sure I care for the new sub rule. On the plus side there is a lot less micro management. Beyond that the subs appear to be more lethal. Especially since you can't chase wounded subs down and try to kill them. I don't have any stats though, so I can't be sure.

RE: carrier aircraft

Have you considered changing this? I was thinking perhaps a 1 hex intercept range. Enough to protect the beaches and adjoining hexes?

<t> I'd suggest that carrier tactics also changed. (not to mention the actual planes) At Midway, something less than a third of the planes on carriers were fighters. Later in the war, most, and often 75% or more were.<br/>

RE: Interceptors?

<t> Exactly. Formosa also comes to mind. Halsey had nothing but his own fighters to defend himself from the Japanese land based planes. I don't think he lost any ships...at least not any major ones and wiped out a significant portion of Japanese air strength right before the invasion of the ...

CVs only fly missions. CV air components are basically bombers

Why? How do you explain the turkey shoot?

is it possible if i had them in raider mode that they wouldn't have sent up interceptors?

Should this even matter. carriers always tried to have CAP and once radar was available certainly would have committed their ready reserve.

I will note that after Operation Uranus it took the Soviets 3 months (6 turns) to get the Germans to surrender. I believe they hit 1,000,000 casualties.

<t> I vote for this is bogus. Supply trucks, should not be able to do this, and in fact, supplies transported via the sea should not work (or be severely reduced) in a heavily interdicted sea area.<br/>

I've read that. So far I have not seen a sub in a coastal hex. Further I doubt I ever will, in the Atlantic anyway.

For North Africa I recall being impressed by the work done in the official Australian history. Just looked. It's online as well.

RE: OT: WW2 books

Assuming you're talking about Infantry Attacks, I'd say it should be low on your list. It's more of a tactics paper, so unless you have read (or plan to) read others I'd focus elsewhere.
