Do you have an integrated GPU on your machine? If so, that might be the issue as Windows will default to using the integrated GPU over your NVida GPU.

There are several that capture the history fairly well. As for gameplay, that is a matter of taste. I find the AGEOD Roman series AJE to be a fairly good representation of the Roman period. The old Ageod games are still on my systems. AJE, and its DLC are still top notch when it comes time to scratch that 'Friends, Romans, countrymen' itch. I'm currently at July 70 AD in the Year of four Emperors campaign.
