I think there are two fundamental problems once the game moves onto 1944. First, as in WiTE, there is no reason to repeat a historic mistake. Neither a German player nor the AI will let the allies manage a Falaise style slaughter, so inevitably ...

I really like the sound of the last scenario.

Well, if we're going theoretical scenarios... one day, with the full map, we may get Operation Unthinkable :-)

One question, and this might be too ambitious. But is there a chance this will be like a paradox title in that the results from our Operation Torch scenario can be imported into WitW?

RE: First Question

<t> FYI, there seems to be an odd problem for some people with the latest beta when playing the grand campaign as the Axis-- the first few AI turns last forrrrrevvvver.<br/>
<br/>
The good news is, once you get past the first few turns, the lag went away, at least for me, and turn resolution time ...

RE: AI turn is taking forever

Just wanted to chime in-- same deal here. I've played the Battleground Italy scenario a gazillion times, no problems, but my first grand campaign as Axis under the latest beta patch, I get the same 31% hang during the AI ground phase.

I'll wait until this gets fixed...

<t> RE: re-doing the VPs... while a wholesale revision is off the table, how would this tweak affect the game: make the WA casualty VPs *graduated*, either by date, or by percentage of casualties.<br/>

Meaning, WA can take more casualties earlier in the game without as bad a VP hit. It is ...

Logistics Phase Event Log: the criteria you select to display gets reset with every save game re-start. Would be nice to save your settings with the scenario save.

RE: Who says the Italians have to surrender?

<t> For the record, I am **not** complaining about the AI. I did not nor would I expect that AI to be flexible enough to deal with a forward defense of Sicily. <br/>

Now, of course, I'd love it if the AI *was* aggressive enough to deal with such a situation, but I can't blame it for not ...

RE: Thoughts on Fortifications

<t> Italy is a tough nut to crack. The way the Allies have around it is to launch a phib invasion every time the Axis form a line, the AI will then dislocate (teleport?) to the rear, abandoning those forts. The phib has to be large enough to trigger this, a couple of divisions gets "walled off ...

<t> FYSA, I read the Massie book years ago and really enjoyed it, but just this past spring I discovered Andrew Gordon's "The Rules of the Game"-- Gordon's book predated Massie's by only a few years, but it makes it clear that Massie simply summarized the trail that Gordon blazed. <r> This was against the AI on normal, of course, but on the first turn I pushed everything that could move to Sicily, with the exception of the Luftwaffe which I relocated to safety in Germany. I then dug in like an Alabama tick as the Allies futilely bashed against my now-impenetrable redoubt. In ...

<t> I've never played WITP so can't attest to whether you will like it, but I *have* played WITE since it came out, and would strongly disagree that it's a bad game-- it's a great game, it just had a number of stubborn bugs and ahistorical balancing issues that took (too many) years to work out. <t> You don't assign the construction units to air HQs, you assign them to ground HQs near the airbase. <br/>
<br/>
Thing is, CUs *should* flow down through the command chain (I think), so if they're at, say, Army Group level but you need an airbase expanded near a Division HQ, the CU should flow ...
