RE: Latest on the 1.04 in test now

If the blizzard changes force the Reds to move troops around and have offensives in local areas of the map(as opposed to the back to Poland roll they can currently perform across the entire map), I'll be happy.

RE: Winter on the Orient Express

I'm pretty sure that the entrained concept is an abstraction of transportation, and is working as intended.

Also, the phrase "Let's put half the eastern front on trains to protect them from the elements" was probably never uttered by the O.K.W. staff.

<t> That doesn't make any sense, as the combat model, to my understanding, is supposed to calculate by element, not just by overall CV. It would also allow for a division that has one tank left to have the tank destroy a bunch of units late in the calculation, and then turn around and be destroyed ...

For future reference, if you open the full search in adobe reader(should be shift+ctrl+f) you can select Whole Words Only for these types of searches. That will get rid of the word in a word thing you were seeing.

Why do I stop taking casualties?

<r> Just trying to make sense out of these battle results. I do a deliberate attack, take 475 casualties while they take some, then suddenly they just start dropping like flies and my men become bullet-proof. I know the end results part is their taking routing casualties, but the rest makes no sense ...

<t> Since you guys have made me confused over something I wasn't aware I should be confused over, I have to ask:<br/>
<br/>
In practical terms, does this mean that if I move a unit by itself too deep into enemy territory(100 MP past a railhead), wait a turn(to gain isolated status), and then fail ...

<t> When I first got the game, I just jumped in and started moving units around and attacking. It was pretty easy to grasp the basics of movement/combat.<br/>

I wonder how the GC can be modified so that the Axis player feels the same sense of confidence in Oct '41 and doesn't face a sea of Soviet divisions ten rows deep, but still can't quite make it Moscow over ...

RE: Winter Idea......Comment

Just to repeat what I've said a bunch of times before....

The Axis side is fine.

The Soviet side is broken.

They should not be able to hold a Leningrad to Rostov wide offensive for the entire duration of the blizzard. It makes no sense in '41.

Static Mode

<t> I noticed that a large number of units in the '42-'45 scenario start out as being set to static for the Axis. Is this something I should be doing to survive the blizzard, or will it not matter much? I did read the manual, and see that it frees up trucks, units dig in faster, etc, but will it ...

<t> I, too, will try the front-wide pullback during the blizzard, but even at 1 hex per turn you're going to give up... 130 miles of distance(13 turns for blizzard?). If it's more than 1 hex per turn required, you'll end up in the sea if you retreat west from Leningrad... And you'll still be ...

RE: Winter Idea......Comment

<t> The main problem for me with the blizzard isn't the hit the Axis take, nor with the lack of a hit the Soviets take, but it's in the fact that, historically, the Soviets *did* perform a counterattack during the winter, but it was *not* a Leningrad to Rostov wide push-back for hundreds of miles ...

I like any solution that trades campaigning time for winter survivability, it avoids being left totally vulnerable during the first winter while not allowing you to continue advancing right up until snowfall.

RE: Interesting movie

Either Russia had a secret armored war goat program, or the obvious lack of quality control in German armament factories goes a long way to explaining why my troops can't survive until the March thaw.
