I have the same problem with the endless hourglass in a game.

when playing japan, siam is at war with me at the beginning...fine. then i pressure then to join my alliance, and they do, but they are still at war with me as well as with the allies.

Yes, plenty of carriers. In even built one, as I didn't know they would come automatically.

I don't think its possible to fight detailed battles in PBEM
