I like it, but there is one thing i think should be changed. all internal bays should be compatible with 'general' components. external ones being weapons/sensor/engine exclusive makes sense, but general components should be able to slot anywhere inside there is room.

How about an option to filter civilian ships being attacked (i dont care about private transports that fly to pirate bases or gavillex nests), and/or your scouts. the alert is useless, yer not gonna respond to these once you hit even early mid game, and it muddies the water making it harder to pick ...

Star marine barracks are 'crew quarters' despite having no crew. so after you develop the tech and hit 'upgrade' none of yer ships will have crew. and if looking at 'latest component of each category' you are left with 0 actual functional crew quarters to choose from.

today i have had 3 hard crashes (shutting down my entire system) within 5 minutes of loading the game up. and a bonus 2 crashes (only ctd) while trying to load the game itself. nothing has changed between yesterday and today.

in a similar vein, i think planets and asteroids should rotate MUCH slower, to create the illusion of movement without it looking so silly they always just spin in place.

New leader portraits. Tons of them. Perhaps also a random portrait folder, mebbe divided by gender. But seriously, having all leaders looks the same is easily the lamest thing in this game. I downloaded the portrait mod for humans, but they all looked, well, bad.
