RE: Question regarding minefields

<t> Thanks all, for your thoughts and perspective. I think I'll make a few more ACM as it's pointed out that I have quite a few "extra" small cargo ships. But I don't think I'll try to keep all of the mine fields either. It's to bad I can't recover some of those mines in the mine fields.<br/>

Question regarding minefields

<t> I was looking over Scenario 2 Stock and the minefields for Japan. The manual says that each ACM maintains up to 150 mines. There are only 33 ACM at the start of the game but just to maintain the existing minefields with ACM ships in this scenario Japan would need 75 of them.<br/>

<t> Thanks for the responses. So if I understand this correctly, regardless of weather an AMc is alone or in a TF it can attack an enemy sub. <br/>

Bill - is there some kind of a nationality chart somewhere that reflects a modifier to ASW or is that something that is coded in the game?<br ...

AMc have depth charges but no ASW mission?

I was looking at Japanese AMc and was surprised to see they carry depth charges. But when I set a mission for ASW the AMc ships can't be used.

How does the games use the depth charges on AMc? If I attach an AMc to a TF, is there a chance the AMc will defend the TF?

RE: Ops Points vs Repair Points

Hi Alfred,

I did look at the table on page 239 but the example in section 14.2.3.4 says that a size 6 port generates 51 Repair Points while the chart on page 239 shows 63 points for a size 6 port. So you think the example of 51 Repair Points is probably just a typo?

<t> In reference to ship repairs I think I now understand the difference between Ops Points, Repair Points, and Damage Points after reviewing the Ship Repair 101 Guide and then getting back into the manual (thanks for the link).<br/>

Ops Points vs Repair Points

<r> What's the difference between Ops points and Repair points?<br/>
<br/>
On page 245 (14.2.3.2.1 Repair Ship Capacity) the manual says that each undamaged Repair Ship will generate 1000 Ops points per turn and that you use them or lose them.<br/>

AMC in contested landings

In amphibious landings, do AMC help suppress enemy CDs?

I'm guessing that because AMC can only be used in Escort and Cargo\Troop missions you can't really go hunting other merchant TFs - right?

Yes, but since your TF is likely moving, and the sub are moving, more than one hex can help too. Night and day search plus ASW al work to keep sub DL up so that they have more difficulty attacking and you have a higher possibility to one.

Float Planes at night

I noticed that I can't assign a float plane to an ASW mission at night but I can assign Naval Search at night. Does flying a Naval Search mission at night with a FP at a low altitude in a tight search radius of 1 hex help prevent enemy sub attacks at night?

<t> So some of you are playing without house rules. I've read a lot of recommendations and see in many AARs that a lot of the house rules seem to relate to bombing altitudes and using political points.<br/>

RE: Idiots Guide to Training Japanese Pilots?

There's a cost to training pilots in HI - 5 points per month. But as Japan you are also supposed to save HI for later in the war - right? Is there a sweet spot for how many pilots you should be training during the war?

RE: Speedy's Japanese war discussion

<r> I think you still want to build at least a few of the different air frames based on your reinforcement schedule. For instance - look at the Tony air groups in the picture. It seems to me you would want to build at least 60 of the Ib, 45 of the Ic, and maybe 30 of the Id air frames so you can ...
