Re: Naval Aviation - Cross Post from NWS

I'd pay money for a lot of these features... My daughter asked a couple weeks ago whether I like planes or ships better. No question, planes. "Why do you play the ship game so much?." Because there isn't a RTW for aircraft.

Thoughts?

Re: Naval Aviation - Cross Post from NWS

And completely new features - Internecine conflict and power grabs. We already have *some* of this with the Army in wartime, but nothing with the Air Force (Air Corps). The RN lost control of aviation from 1918-39, the Italian AF neutered Italian Naval Aviation from 1937-1989, the USN and USAAC foug...

Re: Naval Aviation - Cross Post from NWS

This one's important enough to me for a separate post: - Please increase the ability to generate new models, maybe by paying for additional design studies beyond the first, or greatly increase the frequency of private offerings. By the 1950s we have a 9-month development cycle on at least 6 differen...

Re: Naval Aviation - Cross Post from NWS

More reworked features - Time to move and reconstitute unit at new base, or at least a quality drop when you redeploy. Right now you can order a squadron from Boston to Fiji in 1930, and 30 days later have a fully capable unit on station in a completely new location. Even if the planes can get there...

Re: Naval Aviation - Cross Post from NWS

Rework of Existing functions - Make all air bases within range of the longest-ranged type on either side present in a battle, regardless of sea zone (ie, Singapore-based MBs or patrollers in an Indian Ocean battle). Conversely, omit air bases that aren't within range (I'm not using Pensacola in a fa...

Re: Naval Aviation - Cross Post from NWS

QoL: - Strip Aviation facilities out of the Coastal Fortifications tab, scrap the Air Groups window, and replace them with one integrated Aviation tab that covers both. Sortable (and filterable) by Zone/Territory/Base/Unit/Type. - Make it possible to select and move air units directly from the strat...

Naval Aviation - Cross Post from NWS

I hope no one minds me cross-posting on here as well as NWS. Same set of devs seeing the input, but somewhat different population (I think?) for discussion. And I'd definitely welcome discussion! I have probably 1000+ hours across all three versions of RTW, and there's a million things about the gam...

Just finished Nordkapp.... great read, nice work gents.

Perfect length for a screenplay... when does it start filming? :-)

Coastal SSM Batteries

When do Coastal SSM batteries become an option? I'm in 1947, so it still feels very early. Just curious... I ended a war with the UK, and I'm about to embark on Operation CostCutting. Going to finally scrap all the 1900s era coastal batteries, it seems like I should replace them with something.

Re: So lonely....

So, to update... a few months later Japan finally joined in. AH, Itl, Esp never did. After 2.5 years, and me invading and taking Lagos and most of the South Pacific (and inexplicably *not* getting North Vietnam after multiple months of 10x ship advantage), the war ended. Fun final battle, I had an a...

So lonely....

I've been at war with UK for 17 months, their French buddies joined in 13 months ago.

BOTH have torpedoed neutral liners. The French twice.

Here's the "All Relations" screen:

What the heck more has to happen for the rest of the world to join in?!?!

Re: The Tirpitz

Specifically... - Twin turrets are weight-inefficient, you could probably have 9 guns (3x3) for very little more weight than an 8-gun 4x2 layout. - Thin deck armor means high vulnerability to long range plunging fire (very much the norm by the 1940s) and even more so to bombs. And, to paraphrase Dra...

Re: Does Anyone Know How to Use This Thing? - An RTW3 AAR featuring Imperial Germany

Fyi.... taking a bit of a break. Work craziness and summer vacation IRL, and frankly a bit of RTW burnout. I've been playing and writing about it since ~August last year. I think a white peace (Sorry, spoilers...) after sinking 2/3 of the French fleet took a bunch of wind out of the sails.

AAR - Mission 1 - Red Sea Rumble

https://www.naval-history.net/Photo06clNewfoundland1NP.jpg Pitch black night in 1956, crowded Gulf of Suez, and a surface task force in two separate elements divided by about 50 miles. To the north the flagship, Her Majesty's Fiji -class cruiser Newfoundland (1943, 11000 tons, 9 x 6-in) supported b...

Overall Matrix Forum Request

Can I make a request? Scrolling past the same announcements on Every. Single. Page. It gets pretty old. At a minimum, can they not appear on Page 2/etc? Maybe also consider dropping them from sub-forums as well (ie, I just saw them on the main RTW forum, do I also need to see them on the RTW AAR and...

Oh... and if you meant "how did we get two flash fires from 88mm shells".... completely unarmored 13" guns.

Re: Does Anyone Know How to Use This Thing? - An RTW3 AAR featuring Imperial Germany

I assume Germany gets a +1 3" gun this early because 88mm is ~3.5 inches.

And apparently that's what caused *both* flash-fires.

Re: Does Anyone Know How to Use This Thing? - An RTW3 AAR featuring Imperial Germany

Both from a 3" hit. Those German 88s are getting their reputation started about 40 years early in this world.
