Re: Why wont my unit fire

Why doesn't the Soviet unit fire on your unit? I guess it is some kind of hybrid recon & arty or something so it is not equipped to fire on a tank unit. It knows you are there so maybe it will move away cause you are within close range should trigger a move away from you. The Soviet is in an urban ...

Re: Timid Soviet AI Artillery

Thanks WildCat for your detailed replies.

I like to set about half my artillery to counter battery to try and reduce the Soviet barrages. But I leave mortars on general use cause of shorter range.

I didn't know we could customize FSCC parameters. I always relied on my staff with blind faith. I ...

Re: Timid Soviet AI Artillery

This game looks very similar so it must use the same arty AI as Southern Storm?

Similar, but with at least an additional year of development tweaks put into it:
- we retuned the artillery effects for HE and DPICM using open source effectiveness data
- 'hasty move' road columns are assumed to ...

Re: Timid Soviet AI Artillery

I don't have this game yet, but the Soviet artillery in Southern Storm is constant deluge of misery like a day of non-stop rain except it adds in suppression and vehicles blowing up here and there. This game looks very similar so it must use the same arty AI as Southern Storm? The artillery was so ...

Re: Overlord Introduction to scenarios

That battle for the casino sounds like a fun scenario. Almost like a script for a zombie movie where the survivors fortify a casino to hold out against the horde.

Re: Overlord Introduction to scenarios

The battle for Hill 20 at Sainte-Mere_Eglise sounds like a good one. Raff was thinking good tactics but had bad luck with the flanking attack around the hill. That is a rare case where the Americans failed an attack in this early Overlord era. The 82nd were a dangerous bunch and quite merciless too ...

Re: Overlord Introduction to scenarios

Aw poor Winkler. Thanks asl3d.

Sounds like he was a hero of the Barrikady battles. It is sad his soldiers and him were wiped out. The Russians were cruel to POWs and very few survived. Winkler looks like a nice leader very loyal and brave. I hope he was able to enjoy the Barrikady battle while he ...

Re: Advanced Heroes and Leaders Collection Boards

Those are some good boards of wholesome country homes and orchards. A pleasant place for some war.

I think I will do another Normandy area battle similar to Pouppeville for my next AAR. I am thinking these are nice battles in pleasant places so they are good for battle stories. Kind of small like ...

Re: Overlord Introduction to scenarios

Fournier was a hero after all. It is unusual he died 3 days later instead of being cruelly bayoneted by angry Japanese while fatally wounded at the gun. He went full Rambo there at the end which is definitely the finest a soldier can be.

So he was at Guadalcanal instead of at Pouppeville so i ...

Re: Overlord Introduction to scenarios

I don't know anything about Sergeant Fournier historically. Is he a famous commander?
I only know he stayed pinned down in the field with 2 shaken glider squads so it was one whole team I was missing from my attack.

Re: Advanced Heroes and Leaders Collection Boards

I finished the story with more pictures and details.
Note that I was playing on the easier level which extended the turn limit from 6 to 9 turns. I was good I had that setting because the last 3 turns were very lively. It took us about 4 turns to get to the houses and there was very heavy fighting ...

Re: Pouppeville house to house battle

Earlier in the hour....

Lieutenant-Colonel Julian Ewell briefed his 2 other officers on the attack plan: 40 paratroops split into 3 times southwest, south and southeast will approach the town over an open field and into a thick stand of trees before rushing the houses of the town to engage the 60 ...

Re: Advanced Heroes and Leaders Collection Boards

welcome
I will add much more to the story tonight.
Was going to finish it last night but was distracted by real life events. There was a paratrooper attack on our town.... or no no that is just in the story.

Re: Overlord Introduction to scenarios

oh ya the documents pack. Thank you. I will look in there for info panels.

About the AAR, it is just started. I have more pictures and will show the full battle and results.
I will do more AARs. That Pouppeville battle is very small but intense with very heavy losses on both sides in a pleasant ...

Re: Overlord Introduction to scenarios

thanks asl3d
I read about the Pouppeville battle on a history website and it matched the game info so it is good info.
I had a problem reading the ingame info panels because they zip by when I am only 1/3 through reading it.
Options has "message speed" which was at 6 and I put it up to 9 so ...

I did the AE Pouppeville battle last night. It was a nice little town battle.
I started an AAR for it. I have all the pictures and will finish posting the full story tonight.

Pouppeville house to house battle

Pouppeville

History information also provided in game in the information panel. https://www.dday-overlord.com/en/battle-of-normandy/cities/pouppeville

We attacked the small town of Pouppeville. A small force of several platoons on both sides with the Germans defending the tiny town surrounded ...

Re: Advanced Heroes and Leaders Collection Boards

Those jungle and beach boards look like paradise. I wanna use these.
Are they in the Pacific battles? Can I find them in my game now?
A pleasant island battle would be good for me to sharpen my skills with this game. It is fairly hard for me cause of the short turn limits.

I am wondering about in ...

Re: Core of Heroes and Leaders mod

No sorry. I can't do save & reload in games cause it kills immersion.
I take the good, bad and ugly as part of what the universe is serving up for me.
But also I don't mind losing. It is part of enjoying war.

I only used Kursk for a quick test and should have clicked on a smaller scenario to try ...
