it's a red line for laser designation.

go to view and turn on target designation.

the whole thing is automatic, btw- as soon as the attacking aircraft needs it anybody nearby who can designate for the weapon will do so assuming they have the range and LOS to do so.

if you uncheck the slow down to maintain formation wouldn't they continue? I'd try that. it's in the group controls, right side of the UI.

you never need to micromanage laser designators, just like radar illuminators they will turn on automatically as needed and aren't managed by the EMCON system.

you can. the sim also does it for certain missions, where EMCON is snoozed until you reach your station or IP.

you can plot with shift+f1 (plot course) however there is not an extremely ergonomic way of doing it for large launches. you will have to plot every single target separately which can take a lot of time.

re: recon, what command misses the most is "signature blooms" from activity. seeing stuff that's immobile and recessed into a treeline is pretty hard, but seeing stuff that's charging across the terrain ...

use an anti-surface (ground) patrol instead, it will engage targets in the boundary of it's prosecution area as determined by it's ROE and TLAM WRA as soon as they appear.
