Hot Keys - why require "ctrl”?

Is there a reason game programmers made it necessary to require “ctrl” to effectuate a hotkey? For example, to “Show SOP Ranges” one must push “Ctrl-P.” Why not just “P?” There are not that many hot keys that a single letter can’t be used for all of them.

I ask because it’s a bit of an annoyance to ...

Available Card Table picture files

In building a scenario from scratch, in the Vr operational library, Card Table, Event Pic column, there 111 picture files available. Yet, in the same column in the Turning the Tide scenario file, there are 125 pictures available including b17, b26 and ju88 files which are not included in the scratch ...

Drawing rivers in Map Editor

How do you draw rivers along specific hex sides? And related, how do you draw a river along multiple hex sides in the same hex?

Re: OOB Command Structure

As I understand it then, with a limited number of HQ levels available, a choice is required:
-treat armored Combat Commands as regiments with no individual HQ unit; or,
-treat CCs as divisions and give each individual CC its own division level HQ.
And that taking the latter approach, as the game ...

OOB Command Structure

Ardennes Offensive is an exceptional strategy game, in my view the best currently on the market. I nevertheless have three questions concerning it.

First, why are some armored divisions apparently treated as Corps and unable to be assigned to a Corps command? While scenarios start with certain ...

Steam and Product Code

<t> I would like to add the game to my Steam library if I can. But Steam requires a product code. What is the game's product code or where might I find it.<br/>
<br/>
Thanks<br/>
<br/>
By the way, my game is working fine. And the game looks like a work of art. Thanks for your work. And, I look ...

Needed: Anti-submarine warfare for dummies

<t> Can’t sink a German sub to save my like. I tried right clicking on them with every ship in the British Navy and all I get is a message that I can’t occupy the same space as an enemy. Tried right-clicking with shift, alt, ctrl and just about every other key on the board and got no change. Tried ...

RE: AT guns and "STEEP ANGLE"

<t> Steve,<br/>
<br/>
Thanks for looking into the up-date application to AT guns.<br/>
<br/>
But, if I can ask again:<br/>
<br/>
How is there any way to tell at setup when AT guns will actually shoot at an enemy tank should it roll into direct line of sight? <br/>
<br/>
In other words, how ...

RE: AT guns and "STEEP ANGLE"

<r> Steve,<br/>
Could you please re-verify that update 1.0.1 also applies to U.S. AT guns. I checked my version and I’m running version 1.0.1<br/>
So, my original question with which I started this thread remains unanswered. <br/>
<br/>
“Is this a bug? If not, what are the rules here. How is ...

RE: AT guns and "STEEP ANGLE"

<t> As far patches, "Steep Angle" and AT guns vs tanks: I play the game through Steam. So I count on Steam to update with all the latest patches. So,on that specific issue, the questions are:<br/>
<br/>
1- Is this a bug?<br/>
2- If so, was it fixed by a program patch?<br/>
3- And, if so, is ...

Attached is a screen shot of 37mm AT gun with a clear shot at a Panzer IIIL. As you can see, the distance is 28 meters, the green line indicates a direct shot, and, both the gun and the tank appear to ...

RE: Attacking

<t> I think the problem in the Sbiba campaign game is that, whoever is inside the game program giving orders, thinks it’s a good idea to counterattack with unsupported infantry against Panzers and armored cars in basically open terrain. Whoever it is, he needs to be relieved of command. If these ...

RE: Inability to save campaign at Briefing Screen a major flaw

<t> The issue is lack of convenient player control over saves.<br/>
<br/>
I recommend:<br/>
<br/>
1st: Player ability to manually save at any point in the game. Automatic saves are always a good backup, but automatic saves by nature occur at the point the program chooses, not the player.<br ...

Inability to save campaign at Briefing Screen a major flaw

<t> The inability to save games at the Briefing and Force Selection Screen is a major flaw in the campaign game. It’s at these screens, after completing one battle but before moving on to the next, where it’s most convenient to save a campaign. For those of us who allot limited times to game playing ...
