Re: Iraq coup oddity

OK, Bill you win! While playing a turn in another match, which has a similar situation in the Middle East, I checked the Strategy Guide and figured out what happened. The SG states that for DE 107 to fire, Alexandria must be in Allied hands. In both matches, my backdoor attack on Egypt involved ...

Re: Iraq coup oddity

Bill,
I have to admit that I am not absolutely certain, BUT I am fairly sure my Allied opponent still had an active convoy route from Iraq when I attacked it AFTER conquering Egypt. Wouldn't that mean Iraq had not swung toward the Axis? Would I have received a notification about Iraq swinging toward ...

France conquest rules

I read the recent discussion about the French morale boost for surviving into Fall '40 and I also understand why France has to get a morale boost if the Germans elect to go for "all of France" and aim to take Algiers. If France didn't get such a boost, then it would very likely surrender due to ...

Re: Iraq coup oddity

My suggestion would be that Cairo becomes a trigger hex for the coup script (sans Sabine, b/c with Cairo in Axis hands, Sabine rightly becomes impossible). Jerusalem can be too easy for the Axis to grab with an Amphib against an unwary Allied player and having it as a trigger hex probably would lead ...

Iraq coup oddity

First, let me just sing the praises of this great game! I had to stop playing for a few years, but on return., I'm finding it to be an evergreen classic. Thanks, Hubert and Bill, and everyone else who works on this game!
Now, a minor bone to pick about the pro-Axis coup in Iraq. As I understand it ...

Re: Poland in one turn

Thanks all! I appreciate the input.
Umeu, thanks for all the insights. I had no idea there were so many ways to accomplish this!
And, although I wouldn't call myself a "top player," I do still like taking Poland in one turn, despite the Russian mobilization (dis)advantage.
I like to follow the ...

Re: Poland in one turn

Isn't there also a huge drawback as the USSR mobilization doesn't decrease since they don't get to invade eastern Poland?

I was not aware of this! May need to re-think my strategy. I generally try to take Poland in one turn in order to invade the Low Countries (or at least Belgium and Lux) as ...

Poland in one turn

More of declaration than a question: I just returned to PBEM++ play after a long, involuntary hiatus. Yesterday someone ( I name no names, but you know who you are) took up one of my open challenges. I was playing Axis and I managed to conquer Poland on the first turn. My challenger resigned ...

Just posted an open challenge, if you are still interested. I haven't played against humans for a while, so I am not sure I qualify as intermediate still, but definitely not a novice.

Re: Japan DOW Russia

Follow-up question: Is there still a USA Mobilization penalty if the USSR declares war on Japan before the USA has entered the war? I seem to recall that there used to be, but it's been a while since this came up in any of my games.

1.18.00 or 1.19.00 ?

Hi,

Returning to SC: WaW after a LOOONG hiatus, or trying to. I updated my copy of the game (which lives on my hard drive) to version 1.18.00, got a confirmation that this is the most recent version, but PBEM++ tells me I need 1.19.00. Couldn't find a thread here that offered any clarification, so ...

Re: 1.14.01 vs 1.15--who updates the updaters?

Thanks, Hubert! You're the best! As it happens, all I needed to do was wait until the updater was updated. I ran it again this afternoon and it updated to 1.15 with no problem. So all is well.

1.14.01 vs 1.15--who updates the updaters?

Hi,
Probably something I'm doing wrong, but when I try to update from 1.14.01 to 1.15, the update application tells me I already have the most recent version of WaW installed. But looking at the bottom right corner of the opening screen, I still see 1.14.01 and I get the "please update to latest ...

Malta interdiction and Axis counters

<t> Hi,<br/>
<br/>
Returning to this game after a long break from it, and I have two newbieish questions about Malta.<br/>
<br/>
1. When does an Allied-occupied Malta begin to have a chance to reduce supply levels for Axis ports in North Africa?<br/>
As soon as the Italians enter the war? When ...

RE: Communist Chinese surrender

Thanks, Bill! Makes perfect sense. So, I'm guessing the main advantage to me in this particular case is that the Allied player cannot recruit/replace any further Red Chinese units unless he liberates Yenan.

I tend to agree that German NM remains too high far into the game. There should be more ways for the Allies to dent it.

Communist Chinese surrender

<t> In a PBEM match, I dropped a Japanese paratrooper unit onto undefended Yenan, which at the time was 3-4 hexes behind the front lines. The Red Chinese armies and the HQ were outside the borders of Communist China. <br/>
At the end of the turn, I got the message that Communist China had ...

RE: LRT Invasions

<t> My two cents:<br/>
<br/>
Historically it was possible, as Taifun notes, for an amphib unit to make moves equivalent to naval cruise mode and land and fight on a beach. So the question really is about game balance and feel. <br/>
<br/>
My proposal would be to eliminate the ability to produce ...
