Re: Pink background with white and yellow letters

I recently downloaded WitP-AE again and got this same pink background problem.
Tried the solutions mentioned.

What worked for me was adding the -dd_sw switch.
Just adding that one item by itself was enough to get rid of the pink background.

I experimented with just adding the -deepColor and ...

Re: Can the Allies choose Landing Craft type?

Well as you carried out a test then you know the answer is no.

The game is perhaps slightly misleading in that it puts the LC/LS into TF when created. Perhaps it would be better just putting them directly into port then you can select the TF yourself but you can always manually disband and form ...

Can the Allies choose Landing Craft type?

Section 9.2 of the manual tells how to create landing craft.
It does not say how the Allies can choose which type is created.
Is there a way to select, before consuming supplies , which type is created?

Experiments in creating Landing craft showed them being created in the sequence: LCT (carries ...

Re: Can Japan win the grand campaign?

I have never played the campaign as the Japanese, or played as the allies past 1944 (and I have only played versus the AI, never against a human opponent)..
But I have let the machine play against itself, AI versus AI, stopping the game every few game months to see how the sides are doing. Letting ...

Re: CAn I win?

An interesting situation. And one that strains the map and game system.

Since you have ruled out invasions of Australia, NZ and the West Coast I would suggest you also set up an arbitrary stop line for the Japanese forces in India. Ahmedabad to Delhi perhaps, beyond which Japanese ground units ...

RE: Withdrawing troops from enemy controlled island

<t> After much experimentation I figured out the problem.<br/>
<br/>
When an Amphib TF is made the default values are “Retirement Allowed” and “Unload Cargo”. <br/>
When the TF is sailing to the pickup island it is empty, so these are fine.<br/>

Turn 1 the TF arrives at the pickup island ...

Withdrawing troops from enemy controlled island

<t> I am having trouble figuring out how to withdraw troops from an enemy controlled island. I can get an empty amphibious TF to the island, and keep it there for a while, but the troops don't load whatever combination of orders I try. The BB's in the TF absorb the damage from the coastal guns, so ...

RE: Mixed feelings about AI game

<t> The game just keeps running until you hit <F9>. You can influence how fast the game plays by turning on combat animations, slows it down quite a bit. Just don't turn on anything that requires you to click a button for the game to proceed to the next event. With everything turned off on my ...

RE: Mixed feelings about AI game

<t> 20/20 hindsight is a huge problem in games like this. Everybody knows where the Japanese are going to invade because those are the places they have to take and hold to get the oil and protect their supply lines. Not a lot of options for them. A drive into the Aleutians and Western Canada is not ...

Which sub game was that? I have all the classic sub games (or at least I think I did). In any case, shortage of torps was a real problem early in the war, and losing the ones in the PI really put a crimp in things. A lot of subs went on patrol ...

RE: War in the Pacific 2?

<t> For what little my opinion matters I would not be in favor of anyone trying to make a WitP2. If you like this game and its scale and format a brand new game should be made from scratch. I have seen too many arguments on other game forums about making updated/new editions of old games and it ...

RE: Mixed feelings about AI game

<t> I would also recommend playing against a Very Hard mode Japanese AI. It appears to allow the Japanese industry to continue operating close to peak production for much of the war, and the Japanese can never have enough stuff to throw in the way of the Allied juggernaut.<br/>

RE: Comp Vs Comp - any hints for taking over a side?

Comp Vs Comp - any hints for taking over a side?

<t> I have been letting two computer players duke it out, historical campaign scenario. Stopping them every three months to check out what each side is doing. RE: Torpedo land base device

<t> I think a good approximation might be a ship unit that cannot move and is torpedo armed. Assuming you are trying to recreate what happened to Blucher that would work, unit never moves from where it starts. Just call the ship the USS (or HMS) Immoveable. This of course would not work if you want ...
