Re: Recon tips

Although the initial images are no longer visible, I understand the intended message. I agree that this is the best approach. The way the game handles reconnaissance is clunky and overwhelming, leading to massive losses. The system proposed here requires more micromanagement, but it is infinitely ...

Re: Transfer corps/army

Even if you have the "Enhanced Player TB Control" option enabled, if a HQ indicates "Unit Locked in the Theater Box," it's because the scenario prohibits moving that theater's command structure to the Eastern Front, usually to maintain historical accuracy. Typically, a purple color at the top ...

Do-215 ¿B-1 or B-4?

I've noticed that in the game, the Dornier Do-215 reconnaissance aircraft in 1941 are of the B-1 version, although based on the information I've read, they should primarily be the B-4. According to records from the Dornier plant in Oberpfaffenhofen, production of new fuselages officially ended in ...

Re: Map Texts (minor issues)

There haven't been any changes here. "Unzha", "Vychegda" and "Pinega" don't pose much of a problem, they're too far north and out of most playthroughs... but Oka, which is in the Orel area, could cause some confusion.

Re: Ju-86P-2 Range and Cruise Speed

By the way, I have a question. Given that the Ju-86P began operational use by the Aufklärungsgruppe OBdL in mid-1940, and was used extensively during reconnaissance missions over the Soviet Union prior to Operation Barbarossa... why is this aircraft withdrawn in the game until it returns as ...

Re: Ju-86P-2 Range and Cruise Speed

In William Green's book "The warplanes of the Third Reich" (1972, 1st ed.), London, UK. Doubleday & Company. ISBN 0385057822, can be read on page 425: "The proposed method of operation was to climb to an altitude of 36,090 ft. from take-off, this altitude being attained in 45 min. and a distance of ...

Re: Ju-86P-2 Range and Cruise Speed

The data one can find, both online and in numerous books, is very confusing and clearly contradictory. Many sources clearly fail to consider the effect of high altitude on fuel consumption, cruising speed, and range.

The official Bedienungsvorschrift-Fl D.(Luft) T.2322/1 of March, 1941 (which would ...

Re: Ju-86P-2 Range and Cruise Speed

Another clear example of the distances at which the Ju-86P routinely operated (and which would be absolutely impossible to simulate with the current game scope) are the reconnaissance missions carried out from the Kastelli base (located about 30 km south of Heraklion, Crete) over Egypt.

Cairo (a ...

Re: Ju-86P-2 Range and Cruise Speed

At typical aircraft cruising altitudes of 11,000 m (approx. 36,000 ft) and 12,000 m (approx. 39,400 ft), the relationship between Indicated Airspeed (IAS) and True Airspeed (TAS) changes dramatically compared to sea level.

At 11,000 meters, air density is roughly 25% of its sea-level value. Since ...

Höchstzulässige angezeigte Geschwindigkeit bei Bahnneigungsflug = Maximum permissible indicated air speed during a shallow dive.

I've checked, and you're absolutely right about that. But in other respects, I think I'm on the right track. The Ju-86P is an absolutely special machine, very ...

Ju-86P-2 Range and Cruise Speed

I’ve been cross-referencing the Ju-86P-2’s in-game performance in WitE2 with the official manual '' D. (Luft) T. 2322/1 - Junkers Ju 86 P-1/P-2 Bedienvorschrift-Fl '', dated March 1941, and the Jumo 207A-1 engine performance charts. While the Fuel Capacity (4,074 lbs) and Endurance (390 min) in Game ...

Norway vs Finland Army

The German units that fought on the Finnish front at the beginning of the war were organically subordinate to Nikolaus von Falkenhorst's Norway Army. I suppose the Finland Army (which didn't exist in practice; "Befehlsstelle Finnland" wasn't an army nor autonomous) that Falkenhorst now commands was ...

Re: HQ Support help to CUs - distance too far

Ouch, that caught me by surprise; I didn't know things were like this. We all know that every game is pure statistics, numbers and probabilities after all, but a mere 4.3% difference between one situation and another seems very small indeed. The effort required to keep everything within limits ...

Re: HQ Support help to CUs - distance too far

It's probably best not to touch this area at this point, at the risk of causing "greater harm." However, it would be appropriate to clarify it in the living manual... although I'm afraid such a change would affect quite a few sections of the rules. :o

I concur with Denniss' observations, I went back to old saves (V 1.03) and no railyard. Now the question of should there be? Umm... Yes, a quick Google search certainly seems to indicate this was a "major" rail center.

Several typos in place names in Spain

The correct name of the town in 36, 291 is "Algeciras" instead of "Algenciras".

"Medina" (48, 250), its full name is "Medina del Campo". There are several towns in Spain with that name (Medina Sidonia, Medina de Pomar, Medina de Rioseco, Medina de las Torres, etc.).

Re: New Counter/Nato-symbols can be added

Exactly, it would be better to leave the original HQ in its initial location so that the Soviets have it by default and place the new Army logo (chessboard) in a new slot.

Re: New Counter/Nato-symbols can be added

Thanks for the list. I've been playing a few turns and it feels a bit odd (just a personal quirk) to see the Soviet HQs with this logo; I initially only thought of it for the Axis. I know it's a lot to ask, but is it possible to also add one of the original HQ logos so I can add it again only to the ...
