Is there a bug causing excessive retreat losses from motorised formations?

I recognise that retreat losses from motorised formations should be higher than from non motorised units.

I am aware that the developers have kindly prepared a pre-game modifier to allow the players to adjust the rate of losses.

However, my observations from playing the game in the '41 GC (as ...

They certainly could become guards, I’ve had them in the game.

Unfortunately it was around the time 2.0 came along, so don’t say whether it was before or after update

Re: Your opinion of this screenshot

With open TBs I keep a few SEC units anyway, however, the Axis should be aware of this and counter with some regiments. This doesn't need to cover the entire front, merely critical supply lines/VP locations.

3 or 4 divisions (preferably beaten up ones), split into regiments is more than enough to ...

Re: The Thrilla on the Dnepr - a '41 GC

We know that Vet has two FBDs (at least) in the south and has some serious troops in the sector.

How are you determining where the FBDs are?

I spotted one branching south SE from BL on turn 1. Epic use of air recon in my view. I doubt very much that this FBD has been diverted towards the ...

T9 Crimea

Following the debacle of the two turns ago, any hopes of defending the isthmus have vanished so we delay while Kerch is fortified. A token division to sent to Sevastapol, which will at least distract a few Axis divisions

T9 Centre

We have now given up any hope of defending Byansk, which means that my whole front can be outflanked from the south. Thankfully I know that Vet is not running supply via Gomel (only one FBD is in the centre), so this is Axis of advance is unlikely. Our main defences continue to lie on ...

I wasn't 100% sure that would create a pocket at Perekop. When i hovered over Perekop hex and the hex directly east to it, it did look like it was "Impassable" terrain. I've been trapped previously near Kherson from impassable terrain (was one of my soviet games vs you).

Sea Supply.

I agree that you have set up your sea ports correctly. However, the system doesn't always (and often rarely) delivers freight to the Crimea and Tallinn. I find it better to set up receiving ports at Riga and Kherson.

Note that significant quantities of freight can be moved by ships ...

Re: Understanding and managing depots - i give up..

A few pointers about depot setting 4.

a) Depots on 4 will not transfer freight to other depots
b) Consider freight travelling along a rail line (sent from distant depots on 3 or lower), as per your screen shot. Some freight will stop at the first depot set on 4, other freight will continue along ...

Re: The saga of the 88th Infantry Division, a tale of grinding

Also one minor observation here. In jasonbroomer's screenshot of his Guards Rifle Corps, the "Assign Support Units" button is yellow rather than greyed out.

I think this means no multi-role SUs (rifle brigades etc) are attached. If so, then jasonbroomer could be doing a lot more than he is doing ...

Re: The saga of the 88th Infantry Division, a tale of grinding

As Sammy mentioned, sounds reasonable that the heavy guns are lost first.

The first winter sucks for the Axis big time, this appears to have been a well thought out and prepared Soviet offensive.

While the 88th suffered heavy losses, it still dished out a lot of damage. (Soviet losses are even ...

Re: RESERVE activation MP calculation

My observations from play are that the most important variables are whether a) the reserve unit moved at all and b) whether the HQ moved.

The manual suggests that the size of the unit testing for reserve is a factor, I'm not sure whether this is too significant.

Leader initiative should be ...

While not devastating this is quite damaging; loss of morale, loss of supply, hexes need to be reflipped...

Re: Two Celts Walk Into a Bar - Tyronec vs RedJohn

I think 2 has made some great steps but also a lot of questionable ones. Not sure which game is better. I think 2 is a more fun Soviet experience, but a less fun Axis one. 1 is a better Axis experience, but a worse Soviet one.

A further turn of bruising attacks, whatever we do it does little to stem the causalities. Anyway we react with a couple of counterattacks which lifts moral at Stavka a little.
