Re: Cannot play war in the pacific admiral edition in fullscreen mode

Most users who have 4K monitors and suitable graphics cards have reported getting the game running at a max resolution around 2560. I don't know if they got full screen on that. Note that the text on the map would be very small at that resolution and you would need a huge monitor to make it ...

Re: Soviet Rifle Brigades

You're not going to change my mind and I'm not going to change yours, and in this case, I'm pretty sure the designers will see the fallacy of your argument, so we'll leave it at that and you can can continue to "chase your rainbows". :)

edit> there's a lot of arguable flaws with this game but this ...

Re: Soviet Rifle Brigades

You're projecting that the actual "real world" military front lines "at scale" represented in the game run along a distinctly hexagonal border in order that your flawed front line density calculations make sense.

edit> There are some game scales, generally very small, where your argument might have ...

Re: Soviet Rifle Brigades

Hexes are commonly used to more evenly regulate movement compared to squares, however the frontage they present is more complicated than just taking one hes side.

The map combat frontage hexes actually represent is the distance measured from one side to the opposite side and is easily observed when ...

Re: Book Recommendations

Two words: David Glantz and David Glantz only. The goat of Eastern front books. For the Caucasus campaign you can read his Stalingrad volume 1 that talks about the first few phases of Case Blue.

I've read Glantz's book also... "When Titan's Clashed" is good, but not nearly as operationally ...

Re: Book Recommendations

Does anybody have any good book recommendations for the eastern front during WWII?

Since I only play the Soviets I "would" like it from the Soviet perspective but one can also learn from the other perspective also.

Are there any books about the Caucasus campaign? My knowledge about that area is ...

Re: Does the Caucasus oils matter at all?

WITE2 is not a strategic game, it’s an operational level game.

Of course it is and so is Grigsby's War in the West, but War in the West wouldn't be complete without the STRATEGIC bombing component. The same with War in the East, it's not really complete without the real possibility of strategic ...

Re: Does the Caucasus oils matter at all?

While I would like the game to be as historical as possible, I certainly would not shelve it because of this.
It's an incredibly enjoyable and complex game that I feel portrays the War in the East at the operational level quite well. It's not perfect but it's the best I've seen.

If you wait until ...

Re: Does the Caucasus oils matter at all?

This thread has been somewhat enlightening as to the "completion" of it's true representation of the Eastern Front. The mechanics are decent... They could be refined a little to forestall the "grinding" tactics, but this glossing over of a crucial element of the Russian-German conflict leaves a lot ...

Re: A Question From The dummy In The Room

You have 3 choices.

1. Don't do anything. Wait until you finish your AAR before updating.

2. If you are comfortable enough with working with installation folders... Install a second copy of WITE2 elsewhere on your system WITHOUT overwriting your AAR installation. Update this brand new installation ...

Re: IMPORTANT FAQs about Admiral's Edition - DISCOUNT for WITP Owners

I just ordered the download version of Admirals Edition of War in the Pacific. I have no email receipt and therefore can't install. (no Serial Number) I received the download in my browser. Purchased 11/25/23.

Re: Transfer ground units TO national reserve?

I don't feel editing the original PDF a daunting tast at all in comparison to the sowed confusion of trying to maintain all updates in a seperate "living" document.... another 800+ pages in a separate file.

Original PDF: 520 pages
Living Manual: 850+ pages

Now the combined content has grown to ...

Re: Transfer ground units TO national reserve?

The manual section 13.2.1. Ground Units Transfer to and from the National Reserve says that it is possible to transfer ground units to the National Reserve to refit/rearm. However, I can't seem to do that. The unit information panel does not have the Transfer option like the air units do and ...

Re: Alekmalek quit WITE2 because of WW1 grinding

Let’s say retreat path priorities logic is changed so axis always retreat west and Soviets always retreat east regardless of ZOC. Knowing that rule you could still create herding opportunities. Units have to retreat somewhere and knowing the rules of how that applies means you can still plan ...

I don't think it will materialize, I think Gary and Joel are going to retire soon, God bless them, they been doing this for 30+ years. But who knows you can dream.

Re: Alekmalek quit WITE2 because of WW1 grinding

Though historical numbers have some value in that they somewhat justify the in-game and end game design numbers statistically. They don't mean crap if the game play becomes non-mobile, non-historical, and worst of all boring.

What gives you the impression that game play becomes non-mobile ...

Re: Alekmalek quit WITE2 because of WW1 grinding

Historical numbers mean nothing, though. The Soviet's can't take historical casualties during Barb, or they've already effectively lost. I think it's probably the same for the Germans. The game diverts so wildly from history after turn 1 that any comparisons are fairly meaningless.

That's ...

Is this a server game or PBEM?

Does it matter? It points to a serious replayability flaw that might be a major redesign issue. It will be interesting to see how the developers mitigate/nerf this style of gameplay
