Re: Gamerdude's tournament final - Moongaz3r (Entente) vs Fafnir (CP). Match 1/2.

How did the Germans manage to capture Ivangorod when they started with only one corps adjacent to it and a fully entrenched Russian corps holding it?

And how has he managed to get AH surface vessels from the Adriatic into the Black Sea? Surely the Entente's naval superiority in the Med would have ...

Re: Gamerdude's tournament final - Moongaz3r (Entente) vs Fafnir (CP). Match 1/2.

December 1915

I am starting to get frustrated and a bit desperate. Try to seize the initiative, since there is no mud or snow, and go on full offensive near Dijon. Two of three artillery units get hit. Also Plumer gets one exp pip.

October-November 1915

My lines in the West finally start to look solid enough. France gets Artillery 2! Hopefully I can get an opportunity to deal some damage on the next trun when he pushes further.

September 1915

I have no choice - I have to fall back in Burgundy. I have a big batch of corps dropping during the autumn, just have to hold on till then. Also I use an opportunity and snipe German detachment north of Amiens. Finally, Foch gets his first exp pip.

Re: Gamerdude's tournament final - Moongaz3r (Entente) vs Fafnir (CP). Match 1/2.

August 1915

Watching replays of endless beating and losing on all fronts caused my nerves to get the better of me. Instead of playing cautiously I decide to try something daring. While the Germans push French troops back in Burgundy, British marines land at Boulogne and I punch through the German ...

Re: Gamerdude's tournament final - Moongaz3r (Entente) vs Fafnir (CP). Match 1/2.

July 1915

As expected, Verdun falls. German NM jumps to 106% - looks like it will be the peak. Killing a corps in Reims is a poor retaliation but I simply can't do anything - German troops have 110%+ readiness and attacking them even with artillery results in even exchanges. I need to farm exp for ...

May-June 1915

Warsaw is lost - a pincer attack both claims the city and cut off the defenders of Novogeorgievsk from the rest of the army. German NM jumps to 104% - looks like he won't be getting to 110% after all, unless Germany sinks some ships. Losses are high but acceptable, for now.

Re: Gamerdude's tournament final - Moongaz3r (Entente) vs Fafnir (CP). Match 1/2.

January-April 1915

The defeat of Serbia and Ottoman entrance into the war allowed AH to bounce back from some of the NM losses during 1914, climbing from 71% to 79%. Germany seats at 101% - and that's really dangerous. I am confident that Fafnir will take both Verdun and Warsaw in the next year ...

Belgium fell on the third turn, I decided not to evacuate its forces, better to stall the Germans for now. It looks like the frontline will be established on Amiens-Reims-Verdun line, unless he tries to push again.

Re: Severodvinsk (225,35) should not exist

Built in 1936? I wonder if it was a gulag camp at first.

Not entirely. At first it was just a shipyard with a little settlement for workers which was just called Shipbuilding. But indeed, in 1938 a gulag camp was built on the neighbouring island and the settlement was granted the status of a ...

Severodvinsk (225,35) should not exist in 1914

Just accidently spotted it on the map. Problem is that it was found in 1936 (and had a different name then).

Re: Giving up Austrian territory to Italy

Hijacking this post a bit, but has anyone ever tried preemptively attacking Italy? I have been playing with that idea for some while.

Obviously it has to the Germany. And considering you can't attack really well in the mountains in the Winter and Italy joins in the Spring of 1915, the attack ...

Re: New Strategic Command WW1 Tournament

I would be grateful if one of the players made a short post to this thread providing the following info:

- Which side won and scale of the victory.
- Date of the turn when victory was achieved (or number of the turn, according to the PBEM notifications).
- The final NM levels for each of the 9 ...

Btw I have played Zaveric in the past. He is an excellent player.
So are you if you manged Paris and Verdun on a Schlieffen France First.

Giving up Austrian territory to Italy

I never saw anyone doing it and have done it myself only once long ago, so I am wondering if it can be a reasonable strategy against an experienced opponent. Has anyone ever tried it? What are your thoughts on it?

Re: New Strategic Command WW1 Tournament

I kind of regret that I didn't start to save screenshots for a little AAR. The game with Zarevic turned out to be extremely tense and interesting :D
We are currently at Turn 57 (July 1916). Germans made a full France-first commitment (I haven't intended to do that at first) and captured both Verdun ...
