Re: OT: Real Life Connections to War in the Pacific

My grandfather was a Lt Col in a quartermaster unit and I know that he was in the Philippines in '45. Unfortunately, he died in 1960, my dad died in 1985 (was a teenager during the war), and my grandmother passed in 1988 so I have no one to ask for more information.

Re: 1128b - bugs and issues

Not a bug per se, but bit of an issue (I think it has been like that a long time):

WitP-AE task force "return to base" code is really weird. Especially when there is enemy air threat. I have lost some ships because of it.

E.g. having SCTF striking enemy TF in Merak (DEI), home port Batavia (DEI ...

Re: Obscure messages in Operations Report

Considerable effort was expended in the game in an attempt to reproduce some of the “fog of war” aspects of naval operations, especially as regards submarine operations.

In World War II, submarines (and very rarely surface ships) would be dispatched on missions and simply never return. Lack of ...

Re: Obscure messages in Operations Report

Just so you know, there is a message in there about a ship reported lost on mission that has never come up. I bet you'll like it when it finally shows!

Bobcat was the code name for Bora Bora. The "unit" sent was a composite force:

Task Force 5614 (Task Force Bobcat):

• 102nd Infantry Regiment (less 1st and 3rd Battalions and Detachments) – 58 Officers and 1283 Men
• Battery A, 99th Field Artillery Battalion – 4 Officers and 142 Men

Re: Question about Base Forces

Speaking solely from the US Navy perspective, bases forces came in four basic types plus innumerable "subs". Lions and Oaks, Cubs and Acorns. Components could be tailored to a specific base but these pre-defined units were preferred.

Lions were major port base forces (see above). The first Lion ...

Here is a TOE of a World War II Lion Base Force. Note that US Navy CB battalions came in two types: Construction and "Special". Special Battalions were for stevedore and general labor duties.

Hi Andrew. Glad to see you're still active.

It's hard for me to break the addiction: Flat Top; PacWar; Uncommon Valor; War In the Pacific; Admiral's Edition. But time passes and I must admit my interest fades a bit.

I have been looking at all the old Bookmarks for web sites that I thought we ...

A welders torch starting a fire, a crane dropping a heavy load onto (or though) the ship, a major whoops while unloading ammunition, some minor electrical repair causing ...
