I have also been running just fine since the upgrade. I deleted all of my saved games and that steel.prf file.

This version seems to have solved the sound problems I was having in 6.1. Loud screeching noises, static, etc. Everything is working great now.

Just to let everyone know, port 7002 is the right one to forward if you are behind a firewall.

Thanks for your help Paul.

I haven't done the upgrade to 8.1 yet for obvious reasons. I have noticed a few posts here about "rolling back" DX8.1 to an earlier version. I thought the changes made by any DX upgrade are not reversible. Am I wrong?

I had my system configured with 512MB RAM and a 128 MB swap file. I kept getting virtual memory errors. I set my swap file to "Windows Managed" and haven't had any problems since.

Something inside the game forces the use of the swap file.

Is there any way to force the game to use a certain port?

I use port 80 for my web server. If you ask me that isn't the best port choice for a game.

I have decided to let Windoze manage my swap file for now. I ...

Out of Virtual Memory Error

I just installed SPWAW version 5.1 and have been getting a virtual memory error.

"You are within 5 MB of your virtual memory limit.", and then the game dies.

I have since upgraded to version 6.2 in hopes that my problem was resolved but it still happens. Any ideas?
