*Converted .50s into recon patrols or SAS Teams (for variety purposes; .50s just too slow to move)
Good! I can't imagine the ma-deuce being anything but a b***h to hump! Vehicle mount that thing, or not at all.

<t>I'll repeat what seems to have become a catchphrase in the US Army: "It's METT-TC (Mission-Enemy-Terrain-Troops-Time-Civilians) dependent"; meaning that your choices are always going to be situationally dependent. You'll definitely need a good balance of troops - but sometimes the scales shift ...

<t>Alright, alright, in the interest of good international relations I officially denounce that joke and deny that I ever found it amusing. Didn't realize that or the "froggy" comment would boil so much blood. My apologies...<br/>

An idea for v7.1: printing maps

<t>Don't know how feasible this is...but here goes: I'd like to see some way to print maps. Back in the old days, I used to take my tabletop games and make copies of the maps at Kinkos. That way I could plan out missions on paper using a smaller version of the real map. It really helped in planning ...

AI Level?

Exactly what does the AI Level toggle do? Does it make the AI play smarter? Or is it like some games where it just makes its units harder to kill?

<t>I love that joke. My Dad first told it to me; he was at a NATO conference and a Canadian officer who had the microphone told it. The German officers laughed hysterically. The French officers got up and walked out. Dem Frogs ain't got no sense a' humor. <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> <br/>

<t>D'oh! I only read the first page and it seems I've been ambushed by the other half of the thread. I'll read more thoroughly next time! (But just had to throw in the anecdote all my buddies love to quote - it's classic military humor.)<br/>

I would say that there are major changes between 5.1 and 7.0, much less between 3.x and 6.x! But the changes are all in the details; the later versions are tweaked so that they play more realistically. Your best bet is to DL the game from the main site. It takes a while, but its worth it.

And remember - it is ILLEGAL by the rules of war to engage personnel with the Ma-deuce. However, engaging their equipment is permissible. <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

Updating issues (this one for the Tech Poobahs)

I'm trying to update my game from v5.1 to 5.2. I go through the installation process (made sure I was installing to folder where the game is located), restart my computer, but when I start my game up, it still says "v.5.1" at the bottom of the screen. Any ideas on what's going on?

There's another book that sounds like that called "With the Old Breed". Starts in training, moves on to Tarawa and Pelieliu, then Okinawa. It's non-fiction, great read.

<t>for putting out this great game. I hadn't played Steel Panthers in years, since I couldn't run it on my Win 98 system. But when one of my buddies told me about downloading it at Matrix (and that it was free!), I got it right away. Very much improved from the original. Your hard work is much ...
