ski and motorcycle troops

<r>the problem the game has with Ski and motorcycle units is that it tends to treat them as vehicles and not as troops using skis or bikes as just their mode of transport.<br/>
<br/>
In earlier versions of steel panthers, motorcycles could enter houses. I'd always assumed this represented them ...

Close assaults

<t>It can be rather annoying when that tank or assault gun you've benn carefully stalking suddenly spins and annihilates your squad.<br/>
But I think we may be asking just a little too much of the game system here. I remember back in the days before "tank panic"<br/>
that infantry hiding behind the ...

best and worst

I'd have to say that my favourite looking vehicle is the Tiger.
Not pretty, but there's something about the Butt-ugly menace that it projects.
Worst looking vehicle: KV2, effective but looks like the winner of a "how big a turret can you fit on this chassis" competition.

M3 greasgun.

<t>The comment about the curved barrel for the greasegun reminded me of a story I once heard.<br/>
Grease guns were amongst the crew weapons originally issued to M1 Abrams crews. Why you would use such an old weapon I don't know but I guess personal weapons for tank crews are low on the Defence ...

<t>Because of the way that aircraft in SPWAW choose targets, putting some trucks near your valuable units will usually distract air attacks.<br/>
I'm currently playing the Russian Steel Campaign and I've had eight german air attacks hit nothing but wagons!!!!!<br/>
You might also consider using the ...

Re: Tactics

<t>I usually organise my force into three task groups.<br/>
Each containing recon, armor, mech inf, spaa and artillery. Each of these task groups go after a set of victory hexes.<br/>
Strong recon forces with at weapons and perhaps engineers can be good for seizing objectives early and setting up ...

Re: Combat

Rat Patrol was a favorite when I was a kid.
I have fond memories of Combat, especially one episode when you saw the same stuntman get killed as both a G.I. AND a german. lol.

Re: Weird weapons

<t>Personal favorite:<br/>
<br/>
Fliegerfaust: One man shoulder launched anti-aircraft weapon the germans were experimenting with. Fired nine unguided 20mm rockets. Disposable launcher, very cool. Would have come as a rude surprise to allied fighter-bombers had the germans deployed them.<br/>

Re: Core forces

When planning a core force I usually go to my reference books and use a scaled down version of divisional formations. I find this gives me a balanced force with a little bit of everything and is capable of taking on any kind of mission.

I have heard a story about the Kamikaze pilot who strafed his commanders house on the way out because he just plain didn't like him LOL

Tank Riders

<t>This discussion brings up an interesting question regarding Tank riders being used as ablative armour.<br/>
Are we playing Spwaw as a simulation or as a game.<br/>
In a simulation, you wouldn't use this tactic because no real world soldier would want to be sitting on a tank in close terrain.<br ...

re: Motorcycles

<t>Motorcyles used to be one of my favourite German units.<br/>
Great for racing ahead and grabbing Victory Hexes early in a game or just setting up forward ambushes.<br/>
unfortunately the current version seems to treat MC's as if they are vehicles so they cannot enter a building hex.<br/>
But this ...

RE: Scouts

<t>I often like to use snipers with their weapons turned off as scouts. A little expensive perhaps, but darned hard to spot.<br/>
Also, there's not many units that a single sniper can do much damage to anyway.<br/>
However, I did once have a sole surviving crewman from a Grey hound close-assault and ...
