RE: Newby ? about using SP2 IDF Scen and Cmpgns on SPWAW

<t> Closest you could come would be to either tweak up custom OOBs/maps/scenarios to&nbsp;replicate the desired details (or skip the OOB fiddling and restrict yourself to the SPWAW OOBs - the '48 war, essentially), or go with SPMBT (either the original or the Sharpnel Games Windows-version), and ...

RE: SPWaW Technical Issues

<t> Actually, waaay back when, WinAmp and SPWAW seemed to dislike each other more. Now, it's running fine - 2 gig of RAM does help, as does the Athlon64 3000+ (1.8 gHz). Throw enough resources at it, and even SPWAW will just happily sit bloating itself on the goodies. <heheheh> <br/>

RE: SPWaW Technical Issues

<t> After a great long time away fromSPWAW, I return - to video-blackouts and CTDs. <br/>
<br/>
Continuing blackouts (repeatedly redrawing, then blackout again) seem to be related to the ATI Remote Wonder task I had running. (Makes it a lot easier to adjust the volume or change tracks from across ...

RE: armour hit by flamethrower

<t> The other thing to look at would be the wonderful loss of visibility you get from from burning gas/etc. all over the front of your track. Just got into playing Battlefield 1942 (which is an FPS with vehicles, verus SPWAW, a *wargame* <G>; altho the Forgotten Hope mod makes for significantly more ...

<t>Nope, don't underestimate the Mosin-Nagants. My first try at Russian Steel, one of my squads killed a German tank at about three hexes or so with rifle fire. <G> Can't remember if it was "vulnerable location", but it wasn't a top or bottom hit. Real tank, too, turret and tracks. (PzII? III ...

<t>I've managed to find a couple videos of Panzerfaust shooting on the 'net, and it does look rather dodgy. The smaller vid (more common, on Kazaa) shows the shot, then cuts to an explosion; I'm a little suspicious, but that's me. <G> The other one is a chunk of that German "How to kill tanks" film ...

<t>What about the H2H sounds? Mebbe I just haven't heard all the original sounds, but the variety so far (H2H.fr, playing "Hell on Earth" yet again <G>) is fascinating, especially when I hear something entirely new and am going "What the hell was *that*?" (I'm almost afraid to hit a mine now ...

Popping rafts would be fun, except for all that armour ganged up on the shore waiting for someone to announce his presence...<br/>

<t>For a rather unfair but easy run, try "Wittman's Gamble". <G> (Well, easy up until you hit the Fireflys and Cromwell IVs.) If you feel up to it, or simply want to learn by experimentation, you can follow up with "Wittman's Return" and "Missed Opportunities", which are part of the 3-scen Battle ...

<t>Vs. AI, yup. Both sides, C&C off, unlimited ammo. <G> (The reason those rockets, 155s, and airplanes are so nasty. I'll have to see what the reload time on the rockets is, but even dropping just three bridges can make some difference, as long as they're the *right* bridges. Of course, Evil People ...

<t>A lot of those cool toys are still available - I know I've seen a big D-Day playset at undert $200 new, with 88s, Tigers and Shermans. (All appeared to be correct-scale for the troopies.) You'll have to dig around some, as I managed to shuffle those websites somewhere non-obvious in my Favourites ...

Yad, I'd suspect the observed weirdness to be OOB related; when playing the "Santa's Train" scenario in H2H, the Maus shows up as a group of crew, with full armament. <G>

It's an ongoing thing, I guess. As far as I can see, it's just the one file in the archive being corrupt (c022s035.dat), and if anyone could zip that sucker up and post/attach it here in the forums, I'm sure you'd here a lot of glad cries...

<t>I'm of both minds for SPMBT vs. SPWAW. I'm more comfortable with SPWAW, and enjoy the "little touches" that seperate it from the SP Camo efforts. H'wever, I *do* really enjoy the more modern aspects in SPMBT. If only I could have the play of MBT in the same engine as WAW... <br/>

Here's a site with some neat offerings, such as an ONI manual/report on Japanese Landing Operations and Equipment. Downside is, however, price - $14.95 for a 38-page booklet on CD-ROM? A little rich, but that's probably just me being a ...
