Re: OT: How is this possible?

The only Marine to have been evacuated on the sole PBY to visit the island after the first invasion was Lt Col Walter Baylor - a radar expert. No Marines were on the Philippines Clipper which left after the first bombing attack, only PanAm employees and passengers.

My only guess as to how grandpa ...

Yes, the US reclaimed Wake Is after Japan surrendered. There was no battle at that time.

OT: How is this possible?

I keep hearing and seeing references to BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier's grandfather participating in battles at Midway, Guadalcanal and Wake Island (!). I did not think that anyone who participated in the fight for Wake Island managed to escape and continue to participate in the war. Does anyone ...

Re: Supplying China via Air

Something I do to cut Ops losses is to check the forecast every day for each originating airbase and target base.
If the weather forecast is heavy rain or worse at the originating base, all transport aircraft are grounded that day. If the destination has bad weather, I look for another destination ...

Re: Never Thought I'd Start Another One - tc464 (A) vs. Mike (J)

"The I-3 put a torpedo into APD Schley south of Pearl Harbor and sank her today. I think the APD would be more useful as a transport than an ASW platform right now."

At this point of the war the converted 4 piper APDs are the best ASW platform the USN has, so it is a case of trying to do the best ...

Re: Defeated units sitting in the jungle

It sounds like you are in the early years of your campaign. It can take quite a while, but unsupported units that have escaped to the jungle will likely wither away and die, unless they are in an area where they might possibly march to safety (say, Burma or a coast where they can be rescued by ...

Re: Pilot Training Questions

My observations from gameplay:

When you set a squadron to "General Training" the pilots will improve their abilities in various disciplines in a random manner. Leave a squadron on general training for a month and then check the pilots. You will see improvement scattered across the board. I usually ...

Re: Air War Guide

The USAAF has fighter squadrons with cameras installed (F6D, for example, designated as "F", not "Recon" in the game) and the Commonwealth has fighter-bomber squadrons similarly equipped - all of which can be assigned to Recon missions.

Re: Question for Allied Players

As immediately as possible. IMO, Fiji is the most important linchpin with two level 9 airfields side-by-side. In one PBEM I had to retake New Caledonia but USMC TBFs from Nadi helped win the carrier battle that preceded my landings at La Foa.

Re: Japanese beach invasions in real world

Much appreciated! Your explanation cleared things up for me.

A further point you might not be aware of: the size of a port determines how many "lighters" are available to offload ships that are not docked. The bigger the port, the more lighters available and the more cargo that can be ...

Re: Aircraft Transport

Use xAK types. My personal house rule is the following: use AKV's for 4-engine types that can't fly from off-map to on-map, everything else on xAK.

Why a house rule for that?

My own personal house rule, amongst others. To the best of my knowledge 4-engine bombers couldn't be disassembled ...

Supposedly, this isn't supposed to happen if you have them on a patrol zone ... they're supposed to RTB for fuel B4 they run out. Yet, I have 2 subs just like your Aleutian sub in the same state ... limping back to port accruing damage each day
(yes, when out of fuel, they accrue daily ...

Weird thing happened. One of my RO subs in the Aleutians is out of fuel. They're pulling out the oars and will make it back in a month. Then probably another month to repair all the damage. *sigh*

Re: DaBabes question

I don't see anything wrong in the editor for DBB scen 29 and this unit, neither in the locations tab (TOE) nor the devices tab.

The TOE goes from 54 to 81 para squads on 430801 and the initial device 1106 "US Para Squad" upgrades to "US Para Squad 44" in 4408 and nothing further.

To me it looks ...
