As far as flme tanks go OT-34/85. The mobile deadly T-34/85 minus one MG, plus flamethrower. 85mm gun kills everything T-34 can't outmanouver and flamethower keeps those Waffen-SS AT-teams at bay. Allways try to beef my forces with these.

Equipment AI?

AI's use of equipment is abysmal. Never seen AI check obious ambush site with fire, never seen it lay mines with it's engineers. And never firing large gun to hex next of infantry. Seen it blow its own inf and equipment with large (100mm+) weapons fired carelesly.

<t>It's kind of embarassing when AI drives a Mk III and halftrack on top of my recon team MG's blasting, then rolls out a 150mm sp-gun and WHAMM. Kills my scout team, immobilises the halftrack and destroys Mk III.<br/>

Use scout cars to get shot at. Hide. Show up again. Get shot at, hide, sooner or later your opponents run out of OP-fire and your tanks have no problems sending hail of fire and send them hiding.

Playing IL 2 really DOES give you new insight to 'friendly fire'. It also gives you huge respect for those SPWaW pilots who kill two heavy tanks at one pass. Hitting eaven one in IL 2 requires timing and accuracy of banana fly mating mid air.

Side note. In infantry formations artillery causes most casaulties in first 30 sec of barrage. After that, most soldiers have deasent cover. (Don't remember what source said that, but it is in my library, I'm sure of it.)
