RE: Way points

That got me too. I thought the red dot was the final point and then you set points in between to get there. Not so. It goes to the red dot first, then the next dot will turn red. The green dot represents your final waypoint.

RE: Readying and launching A/C

<t> I don't remember any recall provision in Carrier Strike. What I do remember is sitting at my Apple IIe at 3am falling asleep with my head in my hands as the computer would move, taking 10-15 minutes sometimes. That is really not a bad idea in my opinion because in a scenario all you want to do ...

RE: Search Squadron Use

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>Maybe I didn't make myself clear. Re finding the enemy in C@W: all I hear about is scouts/scouting. Isn't naval radar a factor in this game, or didn't we have that at the time of the Coral Sea encounter?<br/>

Readying and launching A/C

<t> I have been just trying to play and pay more attention to the mechanics of the game and not the outcome. In the Coral Sea I move the Yorktown north on the first night and ready 19 SBD's and 13 TBD's. I don't remember of being given the option of arming them with bombs or torpedoes. When I have a ...

RE: Wakes?

<t> I think the game assumes you are doing the right things such as destroyer sweeps and having a plane or two in searcing for subs (don't think that is actually modeled). Higher speed should make a sub attack less likely but no guarantee. A sub could be by luck in the right place when a TF at high ...

RE: Wakes?

If I am a Japanese submarine captain I am happy to see you worrying about your wake at 5 knots. So the question is if it is modeled that a TF on station is more likely to be a target of a sub attack than one in transit at high speed?

RE: Hitting DD's with air launched "fish"?

If I understand your post correctly I agree that DD's seem too easy to hit by torpedo bombers. They are a much smaller target and able to turn quicker. I'm sure that somewhere one was hit but I would think that it should be pretty much a waste of a torpedo

RE: DD's and fuel

<t> I don't want to beat this to death but certainally they can't refuel at 33 knots. I understand to do it totally right you would have to keep track of fuel per ship so you would know if you could do a high speed dash without having to slow to fuel at some time but it would be nice to see ...

RE: DD's and fuel

<t> Gregor, thanks for the reply but the DD's should be able to refuel from a CV but there really is no need to because they have the same endurance as the CV. It would be nice if the need to refuel the smaller ships had an bearing on how fast one was able to tear about.<br/>

DD's and fuel

<t> I ran a task group around for about 6 days at flank speed with no problem. Even a Fletcher class DD would probably be sucking seawater sometime on the second day. I think that somehow refueling has to me modeled to limit this. <br/>
Is the AI able to do this?<br/>

RE: Some first timers questions

<t> It was actually Torpedo Squardon 8 off the Hornet that lost all 15 aircraft without scoring a hit. Ensign George Gay survived in the water and had a front row seat of the battle. He was later rescued by a PBY.<br/>

Waypoints

Page 17 says that up to 3 waypoints can be set once you set a final destination. I noticed that no matter where I set the waypoints the overall distance didn't change. The reason for that is that my set waypoints are totally ignored. What is the purpose of the waypoints?

RE: Unusable carrier and KIA

I was wondering if that was maybe it. It just is maybe a bad choice of words to call a piece of equiptment killed. I see the damage as heavy or light so I thought maybe it is referring to the equiptment and not the pilot. Maybe "destroyed" would be a better choice.

Unusable carrier and KIA

<t> In my first try at the Coral Sea I had the Yorktown and Lexington separated by quite a distance. The Yorktown was sunk and a returning strike of about 30+ aircraft were almost all (almost) shown as "KIA carrier unusable no alternative found" Many of these planes should have been able to ditch ...

RE: Coral Sea Much More Fun - Thoughts on Other Scens

<t> I got a marginal victory as the US in my first try at the Coral Sea. I was able to strike the 2 big guys first with only minor damage to the Yorktown. The Zuikaku was reported as sunk but in fact found out at the end that it had been badly damaged and the damaged the Shokaku also. You really can ...

Catalina's search

<t> I played for the first time at Coral Sea with the AI controlling the land bases. I noticed that the Cats take off at first light as the rest of the search aircraft do. Were they at least not capable of taking off before light to get a good jump on their search patterns? Later in the war they ...

That Japanese strike actually checked out the Neosho and the Sims and then continued on looking for a carrier that wasn't there. The US sailors knew they would be back. That would have been a tough wait.

The first one would be the Lexinton. It's 8" gun turrets around the island sort of give it away. The Saratoga had a stripe on the funnel. Don't know when it would have been put on but early I would imagine.
