Fires, red text and luck.

<t> Hello there. Started my first campaign against the AI. I'm an experienced wargamer but not with this system, so I figure thats a decent handicap for fighting against the AI.<br/>

RE: Serial key

Serial key

I bought this from Gamersgate and unfortunately they havent given me a serial key, and so far aren't responding to any requests.

RE: First battle

<t> No I didn't have three next to the objective, well that's kind of pleasing in a way as I know what to do next time. Those archers on the walls are depressingly lethal.<br/>
<br/>
So in an artificial way you need to make sure you don't kill the enemy to quick. Break through their lines but make ...

RE: First battle

Hmmm well I just played it again...another minor defeat! I lost 8000 men and killed 17000, I seemingly took the objective but it didn't say I had when the battle ended?? They lost army morale and the objective on the same turn.

Am I missing something?

It was quite odd to recognise figures I own whilst playing the battle. Cheers for the generosity of the competition

First battle

<t> Overall the game looks good. I played the first battle of the campaign, made one bad choice. I had the opportunity to take the objective but in my usual hunt the enemy down and exterminate them all style I pursued the AI troops to death. My thinking was well if they are all dead then that's a ...

RE: Operation Mercury photographs

Surprising to see how old alot of the dead German para's were, mid 20's and quite a few from the same year groups. I'm sure that is no coincidence.

War is brutal.

RE: Coup De Main

<t> Actually any wargame I play, I'm always ruled by casualties rather than objective. I never "waste" my electronic men pursuing Victory points. Always works very well for me as a principle, conservation of force...kill the enemy and don't let any of yours die. Maximum aggression with minimum risk ...

Off this topic question. Does the AI ever use fast movement?

RE: Mortar Units

<t> Thanks for the mortar info, what speed do they engage at?<br/>
<br/>
Very interesting about AT and AA behaviour. I have noticed my worst casualites have been from unexpected angles or flanking fire nowhere near the objective. The gun unit just keeps plodding forwards taking casualties. So I'm ...

RE: Coup De Main

<t> Yeah I fully understand the realistic principles of taking out Tiger II's. I was wondering in practical terms within his campaign how he did it...he mentions it being pretty easy, I've never yet had what I would call an "easy" time taking out the Tiger II's.<br/>

Plus given his casualty ...

RE: Mortar Units

<t> 5 to 10 minutes rapid fire from 81mm mortars can cause a British Para company to fall back if it's caught in deployed status. It certainly causes casualties. Versus dug in not so effective but then that's good realism.<br/>

I know mortar units use direct fire for self defence...but I ...

Best PC wargame experience.

<t> Just a short note to say...This is the best wargame I have ever played on a PC, which pretty much beats everything that has come out since the first Close combat. If I had to be picky I'd clarify that statement as "a counter style wargame". Well done all involved in it's development and thanks ...

RE: Orders Delay opinions asked for...

<t> I enjoy the AI's ability to coordinate groups, I know I could do better but it's a more enjoyable game when played with painfully realistic settings. As long as you understand the order parameters the Ai will pretty much do what you want efficiently. <br/>

RE: publisher/developer whatever

<t> If you want to whup the AI then micromanage all your artillery. I stopped the airborne push towards Arnhem by rapid fire mortar attack at crossroad junctions, the AI would never attempt such a tactic. I think the AI does a very good job of using artillery for general support. But it'll never ...
