RE: TOS is not THAt easy

Its never easy to lose a top jock - [:(] - but the risk is something that keeps me coming back. I like the suspense. Although after losing my very top leader jock a while back, I now often use my Rookies as screens to draw the first tesla bolts and AC20s as my Aces close in.

Mixed Squad Ranks

<t> Upon the untimely death of my top squad's leader ... I've recruited two rookies to up my total tonnage.<br/>
<br/>
'Til now, this squad has progressed more or less in lock-step (top rank of Ace - average rank of Elite).<br/>
<br/>
Now the ranks will range from Ace to Rookie with an average ...

RE: Okay, I just don't get it. HELP!! :)

Hitting the '9' key gives a summary report of all team members movement and combat actions - including the game seconds in which the actions began and will end.

Race choice

<t> From a game mechanic perspective (i.e. all role-playing flavor aside), why would I recruit humans or replicants as jocks?<br/>
<br/>
I see from the guide that they have trivial bonuses to starting stats - but nothing I can't acquire by spending accumulated development points.<br/>
<br ...

RE: Help

<t> Whatever else can be said about the controls - they are logical. There are attack actions and movement actions and each type of actions are on timers. Thats it. There is a handy guide in this forum for further detail.<br/>
<br/>
Now the nuances can take a long time to incorporate well.<br ...

RE: Ack ... Shock Damage

I've been fighting against veterans with a slight tonnage advantage to the AI (10-20%). My mechs were Grizzley, Saggita, Fog Giant, Marauder (each with some modification) (620tons total). The dead leader was piloting a modified Sagitta.

Ack ... Shock Damage

<t> I have a new-found respect for shock damage. My top squad of four pilots (average level elite) had about 80 battles under its belt - and now I've had my first bad experience with shock damage.<br/>
<br/>
One of my long range support mechs was taking a disproportionate beating from its enemy ...

RE: IMO: 'TOS:WS is great'

<t> Lol this whole thread is hilarious. After playing a MMORPG for a couple years (Everquest), this game is a bug-free paradise. <br/>

I can't begin to recall all the system conflicts and other inexplicable errors I've endured over the years with various titles from various companies. Here ...

RE: Rook

<t> In fact, I have not yet adopted the unofficial database. By the time I resolved to do so, the forum had its difficulties. So my comments on the heat specs of the fog giant are on the older stock model. <br/>

As for moving and firing - sometimes I do. I certainly move-fire-move a great ...

RE: Rook

<t> Excellent points as usual Thorgrim. [:)] Another downside of reducing the number of weapons is facing an enemy with oodles of meson cannons. <br/>
<br/>
When you've fine-tuned your weapons to the most efficient number, its very disruptive to take a medium-damage critical to one cannon through ...

RE: Rook

<t> Personally, I hate having so many weapons that I'm instantly in the red with one alpha strike. If half the weapons are usually sitting idle because heat is an issue, there is good cause to consider trading a weapon or two for better [heat sink/defensive equip/jump jets/armor] so that the mech is ...

RE: How far can the pilots see?

<t> If you mean how far away a pilot can see a MECH then I think its a more complicated answer related to the HD score and influenced by (i) mech size/height; (ii) cover provided by a hex; (iii) active scanning of a hiding mech; (iv) attacks from a hiding mech; (v) ecm capability of hiding mech; (vi ...

RE: Using ready made squad

<t> There are many factors to this game as in real battles.<br/>
<br/>
I will tell you that the single most important consideration is bringing maximum force/damage to bear while minimizing the attacks of the enemy.<br/>
<br/>
You do NOT want to be the one whose lead 140ton mech rounds a corner ...

RE: AI Called Shots

<r> Gotcha [:)] but what is the real skinny on this?<br/>
<br/>
I see from the Guide that they <I><s></s>can<e></e></I> ... but do they really? In your experience, do Elite pilots routinely blast off your weak points with precision? Or do you never find out because your always dodging with ...

AI Called Shots

<t> Hi all [:)]<br/>
<br/>
I've advanced my main team to Veteran. <br/>
<br/>
As my called shots dramatically improve, I'm beginning to wonder whether the AI will also begin using called shots so effectively. <br/>

If so, I'm definitely going to devote more mech space to defensive ...

<t> The amiga version from long ago had:<br/>

the possiblity of rolling down a hill if you fell ... extra damage and loss of a tactical position. After many battle in warring suns, I've seen no rolling.<br/>

Lost connections (new forum member)

<t> Hail all, I am relatively new to Warring Suns. Many years ago in college, my friends and I played the amiga version endlessly. I was very happy to find this updated version - and with about 50 battles under my belt - I've got a handle on the new weapons and equipment.<br/>
<br/>
My question ...
