Soggy Biscuit

05 Jan 1944

He has still not attacked Singapore from the air. I had been expecting Sweeps and 4E bombing to accompany the river crossing.

Most other areas are quiet. Truk continues to be unnecessarily bombarded.

Operation Soggy Biscuit will commence in two turns.

Note: For American viewers a ...

Truk

Truk is a wasteland

After the visit by the lovely US Carrier Fleet he has continued to pound Truk with both 4E bombers and Battleships.

As a result the place is completely shagged (technical term).

Biak

Build-up at Biak

There is a lot of activity around Biak, and the base is maxed out on both port and airfield.

He is flying Recon over Babeldoab and Peleliu.

So perhaps he favours this route rather than coming straight at the Marianas from Ponape/Eniwetok?

Not much I can do to stop this if Ye ...

Kamikazes

Kamikaze Activation

I should add that I now have the capability to form Kamikaze units. This is because Saigon has fallen (the rules are not exactly that, but it's the simple version).

Not sure I need to use this right now, but it's a useful option to have.

Battlecruisers

02 Jan 1944

It's 1944!

I have despatched the Battlecruiser fleet to Singapore to help keep the Brits awake at night. These bombardments of troops outside bases or in your own bases do not generally seem very effective so I class this as a half-decent result.

The Cunning Plan alluded to last ...

Camranh Bay falls

Camranh Bay is now part of the British Empire

The French are displeased ... I had a single division there, to be resurrected of course.

Also in Indochina, Vinh cannot hold out much longer, which opens the way to Hanoi and Haiphong. Being clear hexes these are totally indefensible. So ...

Singapore river crossing!

30 Dec 1943

The British/Commonwealth armies have crossed the river at Singapore.

This is a much larger force than my bombardment at Johore Bahru had indicated. Still, they should take a while to recover from this assault before having another pop.

He has not attacked Singapore from the air yet ...

Fantabulous!

I only just noticed this, and I love it! Even though I know nothing about the Spanish Civil War.

A re-implementation of the WitP-AE engine or concept was not even remotely on my bingo card, but it is most definitely on my bucket list.

This is clearly a PoC. Start with a small sandbox and then go ...

Re: Cruft vs. szmike, Babeslite Scen 1 with 3-day turns

Guys

Can you take it elsewhere please? I am reluctant to carry on with this AAR if it's just going to be a general tactics discussion.

The Bombardment of Malacca

27 Dec 1943

Truk gets pounded for another 3 days. It has been rendered useless.

I didn't realise before plotting this turn, but you can bombard Johore Bharu from Singapore.

Re: Japanese Opponent wanted - New Beta

I am a relatively experienced player looking to play the Allied side using the recent beta. I have played a few PBEMs one going into 45 and one into late 44. Both ended due to mutual agreement of the players. The other games my opponents disappeared in late 42 or 43. Please PM me with any house ...

Re: Sitrep Indochina

He is definitely coming for Singapore. There is a vast army encamped at Johore Bharu.

IMO, that's good. Hopefully you don't have too much in Singers, but truthfully at this point it is what it is. Pull remnants of good units, and evacuate everything back to east of HK ... leave small unit ...

Soviet doings

I attacked the Sovs in early 42. Unfortunately I bungled it and lost a lot of troops. You can see this on pages 2/3 of the AAR.

In answer to your perceived question: Does it work? My answer would be: Sort of. Yeah, not definitive, and my apologies. As someone else noted, SOV has a fair ...

Sitrep Indochina

Fortress Hainan

I would like to delay the arrival of the British/Chinese blob at the Hong Kong/Canton area as long as possible.

While Singapore holds he will likely be reluctant to sally forth into the South China Sea, so for the time being Hainan is in a sense inviolate. I have it stacked with ...

Peiping river crossings

Inadvertant Shock Attack at Peiping?

One thing which does give me a bit of hope is that my opponent is not averse to the occasional bit of bungling himself.

Peiping has been under siege for months, but over the last few turns he has sent a couple of units over the river and triggered Shock ...

Arrival of the Deathstar (vs. 1.0)

Dec 24 1943

The main US CV fleet had not previously been seen, he only used some CVEs in the Marshall Islands operations.

Today this changed though. Below is one of many attacks this turn on Truk, featuring 300 or so bombers. Ouchie.

Not sure if he intends to actually take Truk or is happy to ...
