hi folks

you do all know that the "obsolete" Fairey swordfish was a fairly tolerable dive bomber as well as a torpedo plane :-)

RE: "defensive" carrier - gamey?

in 1943 HMS Victorious was operating in the Solomon's with one US carrier - she was turned into a fighter carrier with 60 martlet / F4's while the US carrier held all the bombers

not that gamey then !

RE: Slugout in bad weather (virtues of radar) -- Spoilers be advised

<t> At that time of the war radar was hardly reliable, and could not really be used to sneak in large surface TF through DD screen directly into the middle of enemy TF. That's why screen is there in the first place, to take punishment and detect incoming threat<br/>

Swordfish II

<r> Hi chaps I have to point out that the swordfish II was in use with 829 squadron in March 1942 aboard Illustrious <br/>
<br/>
this is the squadron that had ASV radar so its worth getting right <br/>
<br/>
I suspect there is a typo with the entry date of Swordfish II in the editor<br/>

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>Can anything be done with the combat routines to prevent tiny units from attacking huge numbers of troops and cancelling their moves? RE: Great Naval Fiction Books

Try the Richard Woodman books
a brig of war etc

very close to the hornblower novels in spirit, a bit more downbeat than Patrick O'Brien. tries to be a bit out of the ordinary in terms of setting and plot

RE: Best fighter in WW2???

<t> <br/>
the P40 was a nice plane with a superb roll rate and high speed for early war planes at medium altitude plus good initial dive acceleration, I've always thought it would have made an excellent carrier plane. <br/>

However when compared to the 109 its rate of climb and performance ...

<t> Hipper here is some additional information concerning the 122nd Field Artillery "On 3 January 1941 the Regiment embarked at Glasgow in the ironically named Canadian Pacific liner 'Empress of Japan' and arrived in Malaya on 11 March to become part of the 12th Indian Brigade." So the 122nd Field ...
