RE: Is ASW broken?

<t> As I await CMDRMCTOAST's next move in our PBEM game I'll offer my observations about your rotten luck with ASW and game balance. My opponent's US subs have been a real pain, and I've written him rude comments about his luck. Playing against AI can be definatly frustrating, but at least the game ...

RE: Ron and fellow Canadians

<t> Got another one for you as we share our angst over Canada's current military strength. Driving into Victoria, B.C., one sees the grand sign,"Home to Canada's Pacific Fleet"[:D] Wot a Joke! The old Russian sub tied up there for tours could double our "fleet" strength! And to think that at the end ...

RE: PBEM Questions (In reply to Scout 1)

<t> I'm also in my first ever PBEM game. So far, so good- except my opponent taunts my Emperor![:@] In reply to your #1. Yes- but you'll find it in your save directory, not within the game save menus(I eventually figured this one out) #2 Yes; the Japanese player sends the actual game turn (once he's ...

RE: Revamped German Strategic Options

<t> I'm gonna love this game. There was, years ago, an Avalon Hill grand strategic game that played really well, but didn't include the Pacific theater. "Third Reich", I think it was called. Anyways, it's not so much "bizarro" variants of WW2, it's just the whole idea of mucking around with ...

Revamped German Strategic Options

<t> Like all the other fanatics out there, I've done a lot of reading about WW2. One of the more interesting books was based on Admiral Raeder's plans for a much more balanced and powerful surface navy... by 1941/2. This would include several more Bismarck class and a couple of good-sized CVs ...

RE: Nimitz hoards carriers in Pearl Harbor

Thanks, Irrelevant. Things in Rabaul and Truk are gonna have to get a LOT more crowded with all my CV squadrons ashore! Hope the base force(s) willbe up to it. Still, very good to know that I will no longer be wasting possible training time while the CVs refit.

RE: PBEM Questions

<t> One thing CMDRTOAST (sp?)told me, as we're beginning my first game, is to delete previous games that will be in your save file under similar names. Also, look around on that save file, cause I almost missed my combat save file 'way over to the right of the file box out of sight. We've ...

RE: Nimitz hoards carriers in Pearl Harbor

<t> NOW I get it! I have the reverse problem from Mapie 500. It's October 1942, and all the US CVs are KIA. I have 3 IJN CVs in good shape at Rabaul, and experienced aircrew rarin' to get at those Yankees in Luganville. I've been waiting and waiting for more CVs, for the same reason that Mapie had ...

RE: Got room for 1 rookie japanese apponant.

<t> Dear CMDRMCTOAST,<br/>
I've been reading your posts; you seem to know what you're doing, and I've benefitted from your advise to newbies like me. Are you still up for a game? I've never played a computer strategy game with non-AI, let alone a PBEM game of UV. On the other hand, I've been a war ...

RE: A little bit frustated

<t> To my great joy and anticipation, my strong CA/DD force caught 2 US CVs near Lunga in a night action. Oh, I looked forward to CV sushi! Yet, shades of one of the Leyte battles, I got in a measly 2 hits on the CVs, while sinking 4 DDs. Presumably, these brave yankees sacrificed themselves to let ...

So much for Doolittle's (sp?) little escapade off of (I think), the Hornet in B-25 Mitchells!

RE: does the AI cheat?

<r> I've been playing computer games since forever, practically. In fact, before computer games, I played solitare with those huge, awesome boardgames, trying to "be fair" according to the situation. My brother got me started with Tactics II. When I beat him twice in a row he never played again, but ...

RE: does the AI cheat?

<t> Thanks Black Cat. In reading around these pages some more, I found that s**t happens regularly to both sides. Luck does affect results- you mentioned the computer die-roll. Several things you mentioned will be followed up on. As to whether, and how much, the AI cheats, certain events will make ...

does the AI cheat?

<t> My first ever post. I've been reading your Qs and As and there's sure a lot of wisdom and experience out there. After a few short games I then started playing as the IJN in the basic campaign ("historical difficulty") I had, as of late July '42, secured Guad/Tulagi, and finally captured Port ...
