I got the side buttons to work. There is a thing in the XP tray app that allows individual settings for each program. While it's not as instinctive as setting the buttons in-game, it does work.

This was the worst CTD of all (4.0.2). I had just finished a brutally successful mission, landed safely, and bam! Windows. This CTD hurt. Errorlog attached.
