Re: Some Observations on the Current Game with New Patch

Any update on AI Bomber Command taking a vacation? It's OCT 17, 1943. They haven't launched a raid over 200 bombers in over a month. I do get NI mission. In Sep 1943, I did get 3-4 x small 150-200 bomber raids, then in OCT it got quiet.

I routinely move my HQs every three turns or so regardless of what they do or what is done in a turn. I rarely have them get slammed as a result.

RE: Question on managing HQ - not getting blown up

Thanks IronMikeGolf for the detail explanation, it's goes a long way in explaining signal intercept and it's impact. I'll go and modify my tactics based on your advice.

Question on managing HQ - not getting blown up

<t> I just got the game and love it. But in all my play thru my HQ keeps getting hit by enemy artillery about 30-60 minutes into the battle. I know the manual recommends you move them around. Which I try to do. So I have a few questions if someone can advise me.<br/>

1) Is there a way we ...

RE: How do I MANUALLY add pilots?

Thanks LS, I tried doing with a few squadron with FULL roster, it didn't let me add. BUT I'll check it after a few turns for those ones that have lost pilots.

How do I MANUALLY add pilots?

<t> Hi everyone, <br/>
<br/>
I've been a lurker here on WitW for a while, took the plunge over X-Mas. Still learning. I used play AE WitP and in that game, you can manually ADD pilot, if there was not enough xp pilots, then you added really green/rookies(ie 20-30 exp) then you train them up then ...

RE: Auto Recon plotting bug

<t> I had the program "hang" while auto-ploting. I found out that it was because the 200 mission limit for allies. Say you have 190 mission plotted and you auto-plot some recon mission and it goes "over" the 200 mark. The program will "hang" - actually it just process SLLLOOWWWLLY. If you leave it ...

RE: Oscars are still death traps from the get-go.

<t> the oscar was a good plane when it was designed 1939, by 1942 and onward it's defiency started to show. It only true strenght was it' manueverablity at low speed, which was unmatch by allied planes. Also, it's armament was also lacking 2 machine gun(barely better than a WWI Biplane), so oscar ...

RE: Oscars are still death traps from the get-go.

<t> I don't numbers on how many a/c various allied fighters "destroy". Wasn't in PTO Hellcat was number one or something. Guess there could be couple question is what a/c had an impact on the war OR what was best a/c of war? Spit, didn't win the BOB by itself, hurricane shot down more GE. Just like ...

RE: Oscars are still death traps from the get-go.

<t> Everyone has an interesting take on P51 prowes vs other planes. I throw my hat in ring, and say that P51's #1 contribution was that it was the ONLY(i might be wrong here) allied fighter that could escort the bombers from England deep into Germany(berlin&beyond) AND hold it's own with LW fighters ...

RE: Oscars are still death traps from the get-go.

and I used to think the ME109 in BTR was lame, because it had 3 guns versus the FW190. Now I take the ME109 anyday, especially over the lame oscars. Anyone play long enough to get the Oscar II? Wonder how those fair against 2nd gen allied fighters?

RE: Interesting article about the SNLF!

<t> I remeber reading some stuff about SNFL forces, later in the war IJN combine them together to make largers units. Too bad we can do that in the game, instead of having bunch SNLF units, I much rather be allowed to "recombine" them into larger & managable number, Kinda like what we do w/ air ...

RE: Deflection shooting

<t> Taking a global look at the game, it doesn't model the fact that Allied pilots rotated out after their 1 or 2 tours. So it will allow many pilots that started as 75 exp on 12/7/41 able to survive(with durable&armor plane) and gain exp(flying until shotdown). This will eventually lead to more ...

RE: Deflection shooting

<t> I'm sure deflection shooting training was benefit to USN pilots, but it wasn't a holy grail for USN. <br/>

"USN pilots during the interwar period prided themselves on advance attack techniques and training on high-deflection shooting. No doubt such preparation helped the great tacticians ...

RE: ME109 vs P40

<t> To add to the example that Drong made about Marsaille. When the P40 pilots saw the ME109 come at them, they form a lufberry cirlce(circling the wagon, all the plane fly in a circle-so an enemy can't get on their tail) to proctect against the ME109. This was a doctrine for these pilots in this ...

How about a slightly different question...

How BETTER could the IJN SUB FLEET have been if their boat & crew were German? Or American? Against the same ALLIED forces in the PACIFIC?

RE: Allied Sub/Jap ASW "Cauldron"

<t> I have the same problem, but usually the "hot" hexes are the ones adjacent to Takao/Tinian, at times I would see 4-8 Allied subs in that area. Actually, it's a good to camp for allied subs, because your convoys usually have to transit by formasa either north(pecadosore) or South(tinian/Apari). I ...
