RE: hardcopy of manual available

You are really missing out if you didn't order it. My copy already found a place on my book shelf, right between Manstein's "Lost Victories" and Toland's "The Rising Sun".

RE: A bit intimidated..WITW vs WITE

<t> Thing is that once you get used to WITW's far superior supply and air system you will find it hard to go back to WITE. WITW is certainly more user friendly than WITE and if you only want to play a limited campaign you can always just do Italy from 43-45. It also adds the possibility of ...

RE: WITW pre 43?

Imagine a map from England to North Africa to the Urals...that would be the mother of all strategy games. Some AI assistance mode would be great, to automate certain theaters, so that you could, for example: only play as Rommel in North Africa, while the AI manages the rest of the fronts.

Sicily Ferry

<t> So I'm doing the first baby steps trying to understand all the mechanics in this new game. Sicily is probably the perfect tutorial, here's the question:<br/>
<br/>
If you throw all your air power against the ferries and ports in the Strait of Messina, will you be able to lock it down enough to ...

<t> I enjoy smaller scenarios to learn the game and evaluate unit performance, but ultimately this game is all about the grand campaign, since smaller scenarios just cannot offer me the operational freedom I have come to love from this series. <br/>

RE: So who's gonna buy the printed manual and why?

I bought the boxed version. The digital version +VAT costs almost the same as the boxed version without VAT. And if the boxes are shipped within the EU then I might not even have to pay extra VAT. Also that manual is worth it and I want a box to put next to my War in the East box.

Where are boxes shipped from

Austria here and I just ordered a boxed copy. I was just wondering if you ship from a warehouse within the EU, or if the box comes from outside the EU. I'm asking since I would like to know if any extra taxes await me, which will probably be the case if it comes from outside.

Central Power separately playable ?

I bought this when it came out in 2012, but haven't played it in a while. Just wanted to know if the Central Powers can now be played separately or if you are still the Commander of Germany and Austria-Hungary.

Edit: spelling

RE: Difficult

<t> I even saw the AI sending a British garrison to Serbia in 1914, in 2 different games. Also French artillery in Italy, but no French arti on the West front where it was needed a lot more. Some of the decisions are weird. I think the AI would be more effective if it prioritized a bit more - why ...

RE: Difficult

<t> Ultimate Victory for the Central Powers in April 1918 on balanced. Great Britain surrendered when I inflicted over 600 MP losses on them and destroyed their last armies at Suez. This was fun, the AI is good on a tactical level and will exploit your mistakes, on the other hand there are some ...

RE: Railroad guns - why bother ?

<t> I used my RR gun to shell Berlin and got no such event. I had the Central Powers beaten around late 1917, early 1918 and dragged out the war just to test one of these. <br/>
<br/>
Historically all the major nations had RR guns already early in the war - for example the French used their 400mm ...

RE: How does this game treat Austria-Hungary?

<t> What hits AH hardest is that they start with zero infantry technologies, their units take horrible losses against dug in Serbs, also most of Serbia is considered rough terrain and gives a hefty defense bonus. Also Serbia is able to field 7-8 units and once the Serbs have dug themselves in the ...

Railroad guns - why bother ?

<t> In my last playthrough as Entente I had France focus on Railroad guns from 1914 onwards. After late 1916 I had as much as 4 artillery labs running to speed the research up.<br/>

It took until March 1918 for the research to finish and then another 10 turns to build one of them. They are a ...

RE: How does this game treat Austria-Hungary?

<t> The game does not simulate national shortcomings so the Austrian units are on par with their German counterparts. There is one AI flaw though. The Austrian AI never tries to flank Serbia, instead they dig in and sit it out. In my last game as Entente I managed to tie up several Austrian units in ...

I'd recommend you slow up on rushing your P-38's to the front. You don't have many , and attrition will use them up quickly. Also, they are not yet the fighters that the P-38's will became. WHAT they do have is a slightly better range than ...

Fastest way to get a squadron of P-38s ?

<t> There are a couple of squadrons available the East Coast, namely the 1stPG/94th&27th which have plenty of planes, but whenever I try to "steal" them by upgrading the squadrons with other available planes the P-38s don't show up in my pool. Am I doing something wrong and is there another way to ...
