Great movie! I prefer converted US trainers rather than CG, at least they're real planes and what you see is real.

OT - is this DVD box worth it?

<t> I found a rather cheap DVD box in an online store, it has 50 movies and documentaries on 12 DVD's for $35. I checked a bunch of the movies and they pretty much seem to be crap, but I'm curious about the documentaries, it would be nice to see lots of PTO footage.<br/>

RE: Does WITP increase player's knowledge

<t> The main difficulty with English as I see it is the connection between pronounciation and spelling. I don't have any problems with it, but that's probably because I started learning English when I was 5-6 years old by watching English channels on the TV. Mandatory English education at our ...

RE: Blatantly OT topic - Thin Red Line

<t> One thing I truly liked in The Thin Red Line was that fear was almost always present. Numbing, total, horrifying fear. Most war movies miss that part or under-emphasise it. That, and mental strain of combat; people who act utterly insane or simply break down and cry. If you've read Walter Lord's ...

RE: Identify this

<t> I've worked with studying bombs and seen probably a hundred WWII designs from various countries. I'm 99% sure that that thing is not a bomb. I think it's a torpedo. Probably a torpedo bomber emergency released it due to flak damage or something like that. The design looks about right and the ...

RE: WWII Books Suggestions Needed?

<t> The other day I bought "Fighting Techniques of a Japanese infantryman" by Leo J. Daugherty III (2002). Quite good, it deals with training, background, doctrine, organization, etc. It also includes basic facts and illustrations covering infantry weapons, support weapons, tanks, artillery, etc ...

RE: The WitP Player's Creed

Once, during a bombardment run against an Allied base (I think it was Noumea), an Allied PT sunk one of my destroyers with 1 (!) hit by a 0.5 cal MG. Now, if a ship was ever smitten, that must be it...

My girlfriend said something like "You're so cute when you're being all nerdy with your planes and that stuff" when I was sitting in front of WitP, looking up plane data in one of my aircraft books. I just hope she can maintain that attitude...

I think you're right, this is not a WitP-specific problem. I just remembered when I watched a movie a week or so ago the sound would keep disappearing after 20 minutes or so, forcing me to restart the program to get it back. I just assumed it had something to do with the ...

I tried using the onboard card, no difference. The game still keeps crashing every turn.

RE: game is still crashing very often :/

The official support site (the Compaq support part of HP's site) for my computer lists the most current onboard sound card driver as "ADI Soundmax 1881 Audio Driver", dated August 2002. I'll try disabling the SB PCI 128 and re-active the onboard sound card and see what happens.

RE: game is still crashing very often :/

It's a PCI card, a Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI 128. I'm using Windows XP Professional. I wasn't able to find any sound drivers more recent than 2002. I do have an onboard sound card too though, I'll try using that instead.

RE: game is still crashing very often :/

I installed the chipset upgrade. No change. Then I renamed the sound folder, et voilá, the game stopped crashing. So I guess it's safe to assume that the sound was causing the crashes all along.

Is there any way for me to play with sound without crashes?

RE: game is still crashing very often :/

<t> Different every time, I can't see any kind of pattern except that it generally takes place after 20 minutes or so of playing. It usually crashes when I click something, it can be a ship's details, the "Done" button after combat, the "Save" button, etc. There is no single thing which will always ...

I've updated everything I can think of now (video, sound, DirectX), but it still keeps crashing several times per turn...

RE: game is still crashing very often :/

<t> A re-install and spyware removal did the trick; I can now once again see the individual ship windows without the game crashing. Unfortunately, it still crashes several times per turn. There's no real pattern, it just crashes seemingly at random.<br/>

Perhaps it would help if I update to ...
