PDS Improvements

Post by gambler »

1. When testing a play, just 'snap to' the start. ie, don't show the animation of players resetting into position. It becomes annoying to me to have that wait in between each test. Have it pause after each completion of a play, and when the user hits a key it resets immediately.

2. Keep track of results somewhere, even if just a basic text file that has the following information:

Code: Select all

Defense Yardage Tackled By Player Thrown To Completed Intercepted By
with a 'total' line. Or at the very least, pop up the result like is done in game so the user can take the information down by hand.

3. Let the user load up multiple defenses at once with the option to pick each play from the test screen, or to run it randomly. Having to go back out each time to load a new defense is time consuming.

4. Have at least an option where the user doesn't have to click Save for each new command point for it to take hold. Way too much clicking here.

5. When a play is loaded for the first time, you should be able to immediately practice it. Seems weird that you have to save a play that hasn't been changed before you practice.

6. Does 'Run Rush' (or whatever it's called - don't have the game available right now) do what it's supposed to when the offense is pass protecting? The defensive players just stand there like statues if the offense pass protects and the defensive players have a Run Rush command set.

I like all of these. I would include be able to change both offense and defensive plays inside the practice mode.

Some other suggestions-

1) Be able to lineup defenders on TEs

2) Have DBs able to pass rush normally

3) Have DL able to pass defend

4) Be able to window a zone area for the zone defense

5) Add QB, KR, and WR to handoff logic

6) Have secondary and tertiary targets for the QBs

7) Don't force the field size of the formation based on the number of players on the field (thus we can use the same gameplan with the same number of players regardless of the field size).

Mostly all great and badly needed imporvements, except for eleminating players travelling between plays. It adds a ton of realism to the FootBall Games. My comprise is to add it as a creating league option.

The PDS definately needs more defensive pass coverage options.

1. As listed above you need the ability to draw your own zone for zone coverage. This is crucial.

2. Ability to man up on coverage on any player, now it only goes to the wr on that side of the field leaving any TE open all the time. Only way to defend TE or RB is via zone coverage

3. Less important is adding bump coverage and zone shading (ie. shade deep meaning to make sure the defender is always deeper than the reciver, shade shallow meaning the defender tries to jump in front of the reciever).

The offensvive side of things is fairly good, but the defensive side needs some major additions in pass coverage to get any kind of decent game going.

GWsREALLYLONGNAMETHATIDONTWANTTODUPLICATE: I'm referring to the Play Development System when I refer to players 'moving' between plays. Here I could care less about 'realism' in between plays, I just want to run the play I've created as fast as possible. IN GAME I have no problem with players moving 'realistically.

That is because the PDS has to kickstart the game engine to practice the play in 3D.

The PDS does have play and stop buttons to see how players will run.

I agree. That is what I stated when I first went into the PDS, and I am hoping some changes could be made in those areas.

At this point, we have to make do with what we have and wait for any changes that may come.

I don't think it takes timing into account though. Seems to me my wait 1 sec guys start to move as soon as I click the arrow. Maybe the wait increment is so small that I don't notice it though.

No no... I meant when you first load a play into the PDS, if you click on the "Practice Play" button it tells you you have to save the play before you can practice it. If you made no changes, why do you have to save it? Just set whatever flag is normally set to show a play is saved to 'True' when a play is loaded (assuming it's only set at the beginning then any changes should set it to False as it usually does).

I really like playing the FootBall Games as if I am actually looking in from the sidelines, so I love having to take some time (realistic to, one reason is time management) to watch players rush back to the line of scriminage. It is important to just ask the greatest player ever touch a football Jimmy 'Jim' Brown, who fakes being injured (every single play) walked like he was a snail and then ran through the entire teams for 50+ TDs.

Of course I like behind the running backs view when I am controlling players; but I usually play coaches modes and like sideline view and in the box ass. coaches view.
