RE: Gave the old demo a go...
Well I can't seem to get the demo to run; I always get an error message that says TOAW requires at least 16 bit color to run. I've tried compatability mode as well as changing from 32 to 16 bit color but it keeps saying it needs 16 bit color. I was even able to get Age of Rifles to run so I thought this would be effortless. Anyone have any ideas?

No idea, sorry. Are you running XP? On my notebook the demo and the game work under XP PRO, i've heard on other computers with XP they don't run...weird. You could also post your problem at strategyzoneonline. Maybe there are some guys who can help you.

Telumar, yes, I'm running XP Pro. I guess it will just help build my anticipation until release. I'm knee deep in the mud of Old Mother Russia at the moment and getting closer to Moscow in BII and that should occupy me for a bit.

Can you post the exact error message, along with the specs on your video card, please?ORIGINAL: Arinvald

The message is, "The Operational Art of War requires at least 16 bit color. You can adjust your color depth with the Windows Display Properties Dialog."
My Video card specs are a Radeon X800XT 256MB. My system specs are Win XP Pro 3.2 cpu, 1GB Ram DELL XPS. Just release the game and I wont even worry about the demo.[;)]

The thing I'll never forget about this game is the editability with such a great span of history. Invading 1940 France with an M1-A1 loaded modern tank battalion was loads of fun in the what-if department. [:D]

You will if you can't play it [:@] That's a simple check that's in both versions. Can you right click on the desktop, and verify that you are set to at least 16 colors please? You should also verify that you've got the latest video drivers available, you can get those from the Dell site for this (there are a bunch of other sites where you can get later ones, but this game isn't cutting edge.)ORIGINAL: Arinvald

Hi!
When I do that Ralph I only have a 16 or 32 bit option.
Could it be the monitor?

I'm using 32 bit color depth but my video driver is the orignal one from mid '04 that came loaded with the computer. I really guess I need to update my video driver.

Hi, try setting to 16-bit color, 800x600 resolution, and then rebooting the computer...
If that works, you can then set your resolution back to whatever it was and load the game again to see if it still works....

There is a way in the demo you can play other senarios as well. Some of them like the African ones won't work too well because some of the graphic files are missing, but the Normandy one works fine.
I do beleive it involves renaming the *.sce (senario) files to *.sav (save game) and then loading them in the game. But it's been so long i'm not sure if I remember. [8|]
There still is the 10-12 turn limit though. Forgot about the work around for that.

That sounds like it might work. Save games in TOAW are basically self-contained and interchangeable with scenario files.

It might be a matter of doing the reverse of the above. Then the turn count would be reset to 1.

That is true - it does work to an extent. However you lose all the events scripted to trigger after turn XX as a result.

Confusion all around. Are you talking about the TOAW1 demo or the TOAW COW demo? The COW demo lets you play the entire campaign. No 10-12 turn limit...
For the missing graphics: Have a look at http://www.tdg.nu/ there are some user made graphics for download.
There is also a way to built the complete COW with the demo, the 1.04 patch, manual registry entries and the no-cd patch...

Yeah. When one is doing this with regular TOAW for whatever reason, you have to go into the editor and change all the events trigger and reinforcement turns. But in the demo, presumably this isn't possible.
