AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/17/41

Considering the events of the past two days today was very quiet indeed. Very little action in the air or on the sea. Weather seems to be playing a role in our game. One of his subs torp. one of my patrol craft. The sub recieved some depth charges in return.

For two days now my planes at Kuching and Legaspi have been grounded...while the units at Kuching have been undergoing attacks by B-17's based out of Singapore. Hopefully I'll catch a break. I'm flying in enginneers to repair the airfield at Kuching.

At Rabaul KB refused to fly a port strike - I'm presuming because of weather - Intell says there are 8-9 ships in port at Rabaul. Hopefully he didn't bring anyone else in. I plan on making another run at Rabaul in about a week.

The ground war however had a couple of significant events. Sinkawang fell. Vigan fell with the surrender of two American base forces. And Kuantan fell very quickly when compared to the action at Khota Bharu. The nice part about Kuantan and Khota taking as long as it did is that the units that were defending Khota Bharu are now stranded on the coast road facing a long march through the jungle to reach the other side of the peninsula.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/18/41

In Malaya/Burma-
The weather finally cleared today and big airstrikes were finally launched against Singapore and Manilla. The next week promises to be very quiet except for an intensification of the air campaign against these two locations. Supply needs to be moved and units are still relocating into position on the Malay Peninsula. I opted to use the railline from Indo-China south as opposed to shipping the units to Khota Bharu or Songhkia. This may have been a mistake as I really need an Engineer Unit at Alor Star. Tavoy was also occupied.

In the Phillipines - The lack of a land HQ with my forces moving out of Legaspi is telling. Time to bring in some air transports and move an HQ south.

In China - Hong Kong has finally fallen!!! I have been scouting Kweiyang. For two-three straight days my scouts have reported a single unit at this location. In a bold stroke I have ordered a paradrop in an effort to seize the base. The unit commander has pledged to carry out the emperors orders or to die trying in the attempt. If successful I plan on a massive airlift to secure the base. In the least, it should give ADavidB something to think about.

In the Eastern DEI - Units are reforming at Palau in preparation for the move on Amboina.

In the South Pacific - An airstrike is launched against the shipping at Rabaul and scores a number of bomb hits against some merchants. Subs report a largish TF heading South out of Noumea perhaps an American CV enroute to Auckland. BB Kirishima was able to return to Truk but may sink at her moorings. Hopefully the Port facilities will be sufficient to stem the massive flooding.

In the North Pacific - My worst nightmare is nearly realized as an American sub commander is able to launch a torpedo at CV Soryu. Luckily the torpedo missed. Time to move to warmer waters. No report on the Colorado...hopefully the 16 bomb hits keep her out of action for a good long while.

AFTER ACTION REPORT FOR 12/19/41

There is an old addage in boxing...Keep your guard up! ADavidB let his right hand slip down to his shoulder and I tapped his cheek with a jab. Too bad I had thrown so many punches earlier in the round or I could have caught him with a Roundhouse!

He left Kweiyang defended by a base force and LCDR Araki R. commanding a reinforced company of the Yokosuka 2nd SNLF nearly caught the defenders sleeping. Now the part about so many punches being thrown... I will have to wait a day or two before LCDR Araki R. receives reinforcements. Fortunately it seems the nearest Chinese are three days away. If I don't take Kweiyang I won't be upset...It's just something else to keep the Allies occupied with.

I have the 2nd Yokasuka stuck at Benkolen (Mar 42) All the transport craft in the world couldn't pick them up. (I have a huge amount at Singapore, that was how they got there)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/20/41

My gambit at Kweiyang did not pay off. Once again a victim of my own impatience and over use of the Japanese paratroopers. The next day has revealed at least 10 Chinese units sitting across the river from Kweiyang presumably moving in that direction. In addition 25 fighters are now stationed at the base on Kweiyang...recon revealed them to be P-40B's... presumably Chennault's men. So in the end I decided not to throw good money after bad and have left LCDR Ariaka to his own devices. Should be an epic trek back to Nanning....

(Note Pick-up troops did work and I was prepared to drop additional units into Kweiyang until I saw the current situation)

December 20th proved to be a very good day for Japan in the area of submarine warfare...as the AAR suggests...2 AP's and an AK torpedo'd and one Allied sub depth charged.

The air campaign against Manilla and Singapore has proven fruitful as ADavidB has evidently withdrawn from both of these bases.

Time to start ramping up Round 2.

Let's see my last update was Christmas Eve...I'll try to bring this back up to date. It's currently Jan 4 42 in our game and i sent ADAvidB Jan 5 a few minutes ago.

Just some observations...the land movement system is killing me. I sometimes wonder if the pwhex file is what is represented on the map art. It took forever and a day for my forces to cross the Malay Peninsula from Kuantan to Malacca. I think it enabled ADavidB to retire some of his forces south to Singapore. However i was able to trap 4 units in Georgetown.

Likewise in the Phillipines it has taken forever to march from San Marcelino to Clark. My troops have been on the road for over a week now. Unfortunately my plan to divide and conquer has come to naught as ADavidB has withdrawn everything but the kitchen sink into Manilla. C'est la vie.

In Burma ...Burma will fall without a fight or so it seems. Rangoon was taken without a fight and I am on the road to Mandalay and have yet to encounter any resistance. This is nice.

In China I have some pressure on at Wuchow but reinforcements are on the way and it will likely bog down into a stale mate. Changsha has been stalemated. Ichang will hopefully fall. I have signifiacant forces on the attack and will be able to cut the road to Chungking isolating Ichang from serious reinforcements.

Hi, I have had this hapened to me on several ocations. You need to reconfirm the target hex for the movement again and zap the units move where you want them in no time and no the movement made so far does not get zeroed. I play with 3day turns so I often check the progres off my LCU, if i notice something funny i just reconfirm the target. This only hapens when i use the shock attack pursue order by the way.

Its easy when you don't have to fight for it. Dave abandoned Burma seemingly right from the start.
