Either IJN ships gained a lot of experience or my ships keep missing or I am out of range of coastwatchers, but I am seriously lacking updates about IJN ships sunk in between battles. I am starting to suspect there are 2-3 more than I know about. Despite fog of war tallying casualties has been pretty easy - only once had I research sub attacks a month back to find out who got the kill.

Three IJN transports go down, one of them - an unconverted large AK. Sweet ;)

Two Japanese regiments sunk in full strength near Bonins: 1st Engineers and 103rd Base. Nearby, two old victims of S-14 go down as well.

An American destroyer sinks after a single 12cm hit that landed squarely in the magazine.

One day before Decision Day.

Astuga Maru and Hayo Maru capsize during the night.

Is the age of submarines coming to an end? R-13 pays a heavy price - 50/66/0 - for daring to attack an armed AP on the surface. Quite a damage for 3 4" shells, hm?

A regiment of 3rd division, HQ and an artillery regiment are en route to Iwo Jima. They might make it in time.

It looks like I'm going to strike northern Japan after all. I am hoping that most of IJA had been sent abroad.

And once again an IJN TF sneaks right by BB/DD patrol - but it gets even better: having seen their smokestacks on the horizon, my BB TF decides its time to go home, switches its status to retirement allowed and takes off, full fuel, ammo, and all...

Makes you want to court-martial its commander.

Aaron's BB/DD TF in the Marshalls continues to be useless as once again it takes a different course than ordered. The good news is, two cripples from an earlier battle are intercepted and sunk, including CA Nisshin.

YTD tonnage sunk by SSs (2/17/1923)

Post by Rysyonok »

*New*: after a lot of research I decided that the average transport did carry a ton of cargo for each two tons of its own weight. In the previous table the ratio was 1:1,5. This means that every transport sunk will now count for its cargo capacity x 2. I know that a lot of times the ratio was different, but 1:2 does sound like a good median.

It's amazing just how impossible it is to uproot defenders off an island. IJA by now has 1 infantry regiment, 3 tank and 1 artillery company, 3 engineer regiments and something else and they still can't get rid of my engineer and infantry regiments. Kind of makes you want to take away all those base forces; then players are only going to have divisions at their disposal and Mike Carroll's atoll stacking rules will finally apply as IJA won't be able to put more than a regiment anywhere ;)

The forward elements of January replacement transports are finally starting to approach Pearl Harbor. At this rate I am not going to be able to mount an effective invasion until March at best - Mare island still has 150+ ships under repair. My first CVE - Hornet - is scheduled to arrive in 4 days.

52nd IJN DD goes down - Nara. IJN now has 47 DDs afloat and 7 in the pipeline. USN is roughly 60-70 strong.
