Arghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

I just laid my head on the chopping block!!!!!!

I've been merrily sailing around the South Pacific with my Vals set on Ground Attack, my Zeros set at range 1 and my Kates set on naval attack.

I fully expect to get KB sunk this turn... C'est la Vie.

I'll have to go read Dave's side to see what he thinks you were doing (not striking him back) ... I'll bet you've got your opponent pretty darn confused at this point .. .and that is a good thing ... so at least one good thing !!!

But a big Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew for that result ... so now I bet you're gonna check your carrier plane settings !!! [:D]

Jan 11th in the South Pacific

Post by treespider »

Jan 11th 1942 -

As the attached map shows here is the sit. in the South Pacific. The American CV TF is heading SW. I have a CS and KB sitting S of Guadacanal and have just landed. I have another CS just off to the East of Ndeni.

My big concern this turn was that David would try a run NE or E and catch my Replenishment TF which I sent steaming North.I guess I'll pursue to to the SW and bring the second CS around to Noumea in case David makes a run back to the SE.

I could kick myself for such a stupid, stupid misstake. [:@][:@][:@]I guess real life intervened here and I forgot to check the settings on KB's planes.[:-][:-][:-] I had previously used KB to attack Rabaul, then returned to Truk. However I have NO clue why my Zeros were set to Escort Range 1[&:][&:][&:][&:] That's what really screwed me here. My Kates were all set but didn't launch because of a lack of escorts...

Wow, going for Palembang with all those level 4 allied airfields still around and for the most part out of reach of decisive Japanese LBA? You'll get hammered by his heavies.

Patience grasshopper patience. [:D]

Johore Bharu should fall this turn. Singpore has been subjected to daily air attacks. Both of these bases have been devoid of aircraft for sometime now.

Batavia and Palembang have been the two sore spots for me the past couple of weeks. I threw away my APD fleet in a foolish attempt to take Jambi, it got hit by air from Batavia and Palembang. I think (that could be a problem -thinking) I have closed Palembang after a BB Bombardment followed by a lighter force bombardment and air attacks. Batavia is now under escorted Air Attack and was hit by 86 Nells yesterday which inflicted a moderate amount of damage.

So all in all is it completely safe - NO. Should I wait - Probably.

My goal is to expand to the Japanese historical limits as expeditiously as possible. To that end I did not want to get involved in protracted Battles in Timor or Java as has apparently happened in othe PBeM's I've read. Once I have Timor in hand I plan on an extended period of rest and refit for the Navy.

I'm just worried about the oil at Palembang. He can fly B-17's from any of the level 4 airfields on Java and smash that resource in a matter of a few days. While I understand the tactical reasons for your move, I think the strategic consequences will be devastating to your long term game.

Take Singapore first and use it to shut down Palembang, then concentrate on dominating the other level 4 airfields in Java from your Borneo bases. Once you’ve got the air war well in hand then it’ll be safe to take Palembang.

As long as there is one level 4 allied base within 13 hexes of Palembang that you can’t shut down every turn, he’ll smash your oil.

Hear you loud and clear! After taking a gander around Java I suppose in the game the Japanese should never take Palembang before Java is secure (not necessarily occupied)! In that case I may just divert to Pontianak.

Update in the South pacific

Post by treespider »

Here is the past and anticipated tracks in the South Pacific as of two turns ago... This turn it became apparent that David will escape to Brisbane, so I turned around realizing I had no hope of catching him. I should have split my Cv's sooner and sent a chase group but my inexperience shown through here. I was more concerned about protecting my replenishment TF than hunting down the US CV. Not sure how I screwed up in the first place - other than impatience on my part on getting my turn out as real life got kind of hectic as well - so I overlooked the settings on KB. I think I may have set my escort range to one on the Zeros, so they would not get caught up escorting a landbased air strike and so reveal the CV's location. If thats even possible? C'est la guerre - Missed opportunities...[:(]

A good day for the Japanese considering the number of miscues I've had recently...

Here is the latest AAR which I have edited to try and group the action...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/14/42

The US CV TF reached Brisbane and ran smack into the minefield I had laid a week or so early. On approach to the harbor CA Indianapolis struck a mine, as her captain attempted to maneuver through the minefield I-168 put two torpedos into her side. Hopefully she is crippled and/or close to sinking but she is in harbor so probably not.
