Battle at Rabual
This turn had a night battle at Rabual...(it turns out he bombarded and there were no BB so I decided to pay a visit....End result is his PGS??? [X(]pummeled one CA but I have sunk a bunch of auxilleries. My main point was to keep him off balance and aware that I can counterattack. So while not thrilled about the loss of a CA, it has served its purpose.
Other news pretty light...He has moved some subs in between PH and SF as one of my tankers ruefully found out. Subs thinning somewhat near PH, though I do not know if that is planned or just reflecting damaged SSs going home. Anyway, a bunch of crack SBDs will be hunting tomorrow. Hopefully I can actually sink a few? Anybody know how many 500 lb bombs are needed to sink one of these suckers?
He lost 13 planes to my 5..He lost 4 Zeroes and 3 Bettys...Nothing dramatic, but enough to make me slightly happy.
Did get some Hurricane and Beufort upgrades...I like the Beaufs as they do force the IJN to either be careful or take some nasty losses....

That's why i put a Kashii class CL into Tranbsport TFs whenever possible. It acts as a bullet magnet and is not a big thing too lose as opposed to troop loaded APs.
BTW have you recieved my turn?

RE: Battle at Rabual
Got the turn...It is going slowly...Hopefully should be able to finish on Wednesday...
Made a big mistake in this one though[X(].
A couple of the runs to PH that were bringing in planes and supplies...
I messed up and am sending in only planes...My Bonehead![:-]
Needless to say, that mistake will not be repeated.
Part of AVG is sent to Chengsha to hopefully torture weaker Japanese planes.

RE: Battle at Rabual
I think we need to change one rule in light of actual results.
ASW fleet should be at 8.
So far my results at 8 in this game are
1 IJN sub heavily damaged
2 US DDs sunk
1 US DD heavily damaged
And that is over a 4-5 days with IJN subs 3-4 per hex..So they were easy to find.

RE: Battle at Rabual
That was not the case in our game. 2-3 IJN subs sunk 3-4 dmgd to 2 DDs sunk. And I was not even 'wolfpacking' my subs. Let's see how it goes in the new one and after similar results we can go up tp 8.

RE: Battle at Rabual
[:@]Ursa- good news and bad news. Last night woke up from a fever and did 2 hours worth of moves...Bad news, in the morning was doing the other game and my 8 yr old started bothering me. I then overwrote the 2 hourse worth of work[:-]. I still have the file with 1 hour worth of work done...Not good.
Anyway, back to the game...
1. Operation arial termite worked very well. 7 hits on IJN subs near PH. 5 by the recently beefed up SBD groups! 1 sub confirmed sunk but my guess is a bunch more have gone or will go. in the past 5 days 29 bombs have hit. Some subs hit twice...I would think 2 500 lbs would sink a sub...Or am I fantasizing here?
2. My AVG ambush at Chengsha sucked. They did nothing. 4 chinese fighters fell. 2 bombers got destroyed by flak...Very poor performance by elite fighters.
3. He is prepping a unit for Davao...But fleet nowhere close. In unrelated PI news he got a unit onto Clark and it got reamed in a poorly done shock attack. Will counter attack it this turn.
4. He is heavily capping his fleet. My sing bombers never fly.
5. In China I see very little movement on his part. I outnumber him in Changsha and he has not put in more troops for the last 4 days...So while we do not have a ceasefire, he, at least so far is not making a major push.
6. KB whereabouts unknown.
7. CA pensacola (damaged badly yesterday) should reached shortlands today or tomorrow. It might not sink right away, but not sure if I will get a chance to get it to safety (95-64-10).
If I can get flooding to around 30-40 will consider moving it to Tulagi....

RE: Battle at Rabual
I have been able to do some this afternoon and should be able to more over the next hour to 2 hours. So it is getting done.[8D]
Anyway, please feel free to keep your subs near PH so I can pound them by air

At first it freaked me out to all those subs there. But 5 days and 29 bomb hits later all I can say is please, hang out some more.

RE: Battle at Rabual
that must be your other PBEM of yours. [:D] I wont let my precious I boats get sunk fro no good. They are on their way by now. BTW it wasthe most boring and tiring part of turn 1 to send them away where they are of use except as practice targets for your planes.

End of Sub battle?!?
My opponent seems to have thrown in the towel on purposely keeping subs at PH or letting the computer run things (and then keeping them at PH). [:)]His translated comments were
1. The sub unit is shredded (though I have only 1 confirmed kill)
2. sub command was useless.
No bombs hit subs today[8|]..But given recent success I will let it slide.
Other than that...One corps (J) seen trying to hit Yenan flank.
Japanese tourists were not so politely forced to leave Chengsha and Clark Airfield. I suffered a bit more in casualties, but hopefully he is rather disrupted for a few turns....
Some minor air fights....He lost 3 nells and 2 bettys today...If that were a daily occurence I guess I would be happy....
A rather batter Pensacola (98-72-3) made shortlands port...I assume she will not make it back, but might as well try....

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating! Was bummed at my much higher casualties...Hopefully, he will need a week orso to recupurate.
Don't worry, his permanent losses were much higher than yours. non-retreat casualties are mostly disablements. Forced retreat casualties incur around 10-15% destroyed casualties depending on the experience of the retreating unit. That translates to VP's on your side.
RE: End of Sub battle?!?
Thanks...Anyway, unfortunately for me, at some point all of those defenders at Clark will become captive...[X(]
But as long as I can make him feel my pain[8D] and burn up time[;)]...

RE: End of Sub battle?!?
another thing to bear in mind is that the mentioned permanent losses are in addition to the casualties reported in the combat report. (which are mostly disablements for both sides)
Nasty Airwars
Well bad for the AVG...But even worse for Nells/Bettys.
More IJA pain at Clark.....
Reinforcements ((a CD unit) to hit Canton soon.
He seems to be deliberate in planning...So I will try to reinforce the line to Ozzie (Suva
Noumeau, Canton, Johhnson, Palmyra)....Various plans are underway...Of course, time to run if the KB appears..
Alson 1 more bomb on a sub...Only 6 or 7 close to PH now....

One question for the peanut gallery. Assuming he is at max production
What would be Betty, Nell and zero production?
Also if I move resources into Singapore, will they be turned into supply?
Thanks.[&o]
