Good point .. how did you manage it Nik ? its been a massive bugbear from day 1 .. Kudos is you have managed it ..

By overcoming my reluctance to mess with Gary's linear mathamatical relationships in regards to plane types. The final piece of the puzzle was in effect, not a new discovery for me but i was hoping to fix things through other means. Almost did...but recent playtests showed that fighters were still going down in droves....especially where fighter sweeps were concerned.
why can't matrix fix it for us stock players!

A valid question (god i'm starting to sound like Sid. [:'(] )

For something to be "fixed", it must first be determined to be broken. Once determined to be broken, a solution must be agreed upon. Only problem here is that everyone and their kid sister has an opinion on how air combat (not to mention all other combats) should resolve. How is matrix supposed to determine which is right? Now in the case of large air combats of course ...matrix has admitted that the model doesn't handle uber-battles well....however an additional problem is that everything in the game is interconnected. You can't make changes without possibly impacting other areas. A knee jerk reaction can make things worse. As a modder, i can appreciate this even more. I do get occasional feedback and sometimes it's not "Hey this is great" but rather "hey this needs to be changed!"

I"m sure some players will feel my latest tweaks are too much because they've been acostomed to air battles resolving more quickly. Time will tell. I'm really excited about the changes myself. A recent battle of midway simm gave the best results i've seen yet when comparing to the losses recorded in Lundstrom.

Not too bad a return for the crippling and hopefully soon to be sinking Shoho (confirmed by recon that the crippled ship was detached from the mini-KB)

My air force units have hit nothing. They can't even find the subs lurking around Pearl Harbor, let alone attack them. Hmmm, maybe if I change the altitude.
For what we are about to receive, may we be truly thankful.

Yes. Altitude counts as does mission type.

Naval Search will mean the group flies the % of planes you set out to the maximum range setting you select.

On ASW mission types they fly 1/2 of their assigned range but as such the search is more concentrated.

I often find 2000-5000 is good height for ASW. Normally fly search missions at 6000. Recon mission at 20000
