Singapore to fall very soon

Post by jeffs »

Well, given how much he is throwing at it....

Day Air attack on Palembang , at 20,55

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 2

Allied aircraft
Martin 139 x 12

No Japanese losses

No Allied losses

Oil hits 5
Unfortunately, that was all the bombers that went...Nice damage, given the size but in the end, minimal size. I got screwed because Batavia was the only place in the DEI to have rain all day..Some massive bummer..
Oil goes from 700 to 674.....Hardly a collapse.

Day Air attack on Batavia , at 19,59

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 32
G3M Nell x 21
G4M1 Betty x 17

Allied aircraft
Hawk 75A x 1
CW-21B Demon x 3
Brewster 339D x 3
Buffalo I x 16
Hurricane IIb x 5
P-40B Tomahawk x 4
P-40E Warhawk x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed, 1 damaged
G3M Nell: 7 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 7 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Hawk 75A: 1 damaged
CW-21B Demon: 2 destroyed
Brewster 339D: 2 destroyed
Buffalo I: 4 destroyed, 7 damaged
Hurricane IIb: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged
P-40B Tomahawk: 2 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged

Airbase hits 1
Runway hits 1

He lost of the wounded to ops I think...Obviously he wins in quantity of kills..But in total quality if 2 more IJN planes go down in OPS then I am happy with the exchange.

Day Air attack on Buna , at 55,90

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 15

Allied aircraft
P-39D Airacobra x 20

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-39D Airacobra: 2 destroyed, 10 damaged

He sandbags the attack mission...But the damaged zero goes down..Again, I am happy to lose 2 P-39s for an elite zero at this point

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 124693 troops, 828 guns, 335 vehicles, Assault Value = 1837

Defending force 35778 troops, 185 guns, 8 vehicles, Assault Value = 492

Japanese max assault: 1908 - adjusted assault: 1707

Allied max defense: 487 - adjusted defense: 432

Japanese assault odds: 3 to 1 (fort level 3)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Japanese ground losses:
940 casualties reported
Guns lost 17
Vehicles lost 3

Allied ground losses:
1637 casualties reported
Guns lost 31
Vehicles lost 1

 Well that hurts....
Am evacuating the nuggets of 3 units (the 2 aussie brigades and and air unit). Almost all air base units have had some nuggets taken out)...

Also he has landed troops at Menando and it is being covered by 2-3 CVs...

Very disappointing performance.
Anyway, Japan loses 2 zeroes, 2 Nells and 8 Bettys today. POW will leave the area with damage at

I think he used paratroopers...Anyway 50-60 bombers are sleighted to take it out next turn...
It has no base units there, so only LRCAP to defend and it is much closer to my bases....
So I am hoping to pound the stuffings out for a couple of turns.

Quiet turn

Post by jeffs »

Not an exciting day...But for the allies, every non bad is a day closer to parity and then dominance!!!

That said some CVs were scooped just south of Menando...So maybe he is waking up from half assed attacking and will force me to either fight at a disadvantage or run like hell....The latter seems more realistic!

Mass air attack on Batavia, Zeroes take heavy casualties too!

Post by jeffs »

Well the arial slaughter looks set to begin....He has moved 100s of planes into Palembang and is in attack mode...However this turn he was unable to dominate (we lost a total of 28 planese each)...However, I will be pulling the main defense down to Soerj as I think I got a lucky die roll.....The fates can be only so kind a limited amount of times.....

7 zeroes die..10 die total for the day..Of course my losses are higher, but again, I can deal with this kind of loss ratio....However, I am going to pull back as I can not keep this up too much longer....Some assets will stay 1 more day in Batavia, but the bulk are too be withdrawn to Soerjaba.....torpedo bombers and 1 fighter unit will go to Tjillwhatever to be ready to nail anything in Batavia harbor.... I have 800 mines there as well. Smaller units will be sent to Oz and eventually regenerate...Big problem is the Dutch pilot pool is gone so I get exp 22 guys...Not cool......Anyway, Hurricanes might die easily, but they are easy to replace and so are the pilots...

In a week or so 2-3 Chinese divisions will go into the fray at Mandalay..I will then try to attack.
3 Chin divisions will stay at Myr....3 will be flown into Dacca to rest/gain back strenghth...I will then Rotatate in and out of Dacca.

Fighter pain, I-19 whacked. Assualts forming in West DEI...

Post by jeffs »

I will try to figure out how to add screen shots...

He is sending more troops/ships to west DEI..I forgot to get the screen shot....

Rather quiet day...As promised, got ships (except some subs and 1 MSW) out of Batavia..Some fighters and TBs were left there and got punished...TBs and Buffs are all at Tjit now, rest at Soerj...Really shot up units (brewsters) are going to Oz to recover and respawn.

I-19 sunk off of PH by planes..A few more subs are hanging out there.

When you are facing the reply window, look at the line just under the big text area and the smileys. On the left you see "file".

Click on "click here to upload" and send the file. Don't forget to mark "Embed picture in post" in order for everyone to see it at the end of the text :)

US DDs whacked

Post by jeffs »

It is 2/14...I have lost a couple of turns here...The DEI is being pressured, especially on the west Amboina has fallen...Well again, no surprise.

I had a few DDs whacked. They had run some supplies into Padang (which has less than 100 at the time). 1 has sunk.

Also had a scrap at Ambiona where 2 IJN CAs ate a torpedo each and the Houston took 7 gun hits that did surprisingly high damage...Most unpleasant. It might sink[:(]

This is most annoying. Not that I lost the battle, but  this is the hex south of AYkab...I have Aykab, he has no troops there...Yet instead of using a simple system where my guys (who had already traveled 54 out of the 60 miles) retreat into Allied lines at Aykab just surrender!! BS....

Disaster for the IJN

Post by jeffs »

Well as I mentioned previously a lone CVL in a sea of competent Beauforts is a very risky move [:D]

I ask the reader to indulge the writer and peruse the days events...

Please note the usual bombing runs are not added unless they are interesting...So you are missing bombing runs by the Japan in the Philipines and also by the allies in Burma..

Also a couple of turns ago it seemed that a CA fleet and a transport fleet had rounded Singapore and were aimed for the Indian Ocean (my guess would have been Aykab). However, I have beefed up snooping (Hudsons mainly) and nothing has been seen since.

OK 5 torpedoes seems a bit overdone, but rather reckless behavior gets the appropriate punishment.[:-] We have not confirmed sinking, but ton of Kates and Vals were op losses......YEEEEESSSSS!!!!

Ok...So I will lose this one.....

Lunga falls....

He is taking land...But not too quickly and at high cost.....

Everyday my line to Australia gets reinforcements (all the islands)...
They should be strong enough (or at least some of them) to resist anything but 3 divisions covered by the full KB......

But Batavia is being attacked[:(]

Well let`s not get maudlin...He his paying through the teeth for this real estate.

He is also perhaps moving on Kendari..I have a cruiser detachment 2 days away..I might send force Z as well......
Would love to attack at Batavia, but too much Betty activity there for my tastes...

RE: Ryujo confirmed sunk, but Batavia under attack

Post by jeffs »

Combining 2/19 and 2/20....

On 2/19, not much....Nothing was at Kendari so no battle.

2/19 was quiet..He landed troops at Batavia, a few ships hit mines, he pounded Batavia, he knocked down a couple of my Mohawks in Burma...Mohawks really do suck....[&o]

For 2/20... Let`s see he pounded Batavia
Naval bombardment of Batavia, at 19,59

Japanese Ships
DD Asakaze
DD Satsuki
DD Shikinami
DD Murakumo
DD Samidare
CL Oi
CL Kitakami
BB Nagato

Allied ground losses:
538 casualties reported
Guns lost 16

Airbase hits 6
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 9
Port hits 3
Port supply hits 1

and had some APs hit mines..So far 6 to 7 have done it, but I do not think they sunk. He has massive air cover over the invasion fleet so I just keep on pounding resources at Tobali....

His planes pound away units at Clark.

I lost a ship to carelessness..I forgot how nasty bettys are...These flew from the West DEI.[X(]
Japanese aircraft
G4M1 Betty x 8

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
AK Kota Radja, Torpedo hits 2,  on fire,  heavy damage

Better that than a warship....Good lesson

Rather boring...That said I am formulating a truly evil plan!!!

Batavia assualt starting...But evil counterattack in the works!!

Post by jeffs »

He unloaded yet more troops at Batavia[8|]
But 2 more ships enjoyed the louded clap of VH2 welcoming parties[8D]

In other action...

I crushed Tobali further...It started at 900 resources and is now down to 580....
But morale on those planes was low and fatigue high so they get a day off.

He launched unescorted attacks on the airfields at Kendari

He slaughters with just bombardment......[&o]

OK now for the evil plan...He has not bombed Clark Airfield at all..So last turn I flew about 40 Beauforts and 12 swordfish into ililo (it has only about 10 support left)..All were on rest. Now they have flown into Clark and are ready to rock and roll tomorrow..There are a few transport fleets in the PI that need a surprise..Of course planes will be then promptly flown out.....Hopefully time for the manical cackle of Dr. Evil!!!
