Thought I would drop a quick update... It is the end of march and I just captured Singapore and over 67k allied troops. The place is beat up bad and nothing works.. Now I have to decide whether to repair or not.

I have also just sunk the Prince of Wales (I believe) near balikpapan. Oli did a RN raid on the port and got a couple ships, but paid a heavy price for it as Betties from nearby bases sunk the PoW.

Hopefully I will find time to keep more updated posts but not sure.

Xargun invaded Canton Island on the end of march, beginning of february. I think he has some 15-20 k troops there. landings almost 7 days old but nothing achived yet from his side. 2 AP's and I think 2 DD's ran into the mine field.

bombardement is heavy. almost every night a bombardement there.

his landing forces suffered heavily, as I had deployed some troops there some months ago. in early 42 japan can take almost every base but this doesnt mean that it will be for free as a giveaway.

KB is already down to 5 fleet CV's becasue of previous damage to Soryu ( see earlier posts ) and one CVL is damaged also. I dont expect them both back until Wasp arrives.

AVG is down to a few planes, he finally hunted them down. the pilots are in greater number but what to do without the gear to play around for them.

java is still untouched. burma will fall soon. KB was seen near Canton protecting the invasion fleet. I sent serveral subs there but no hits yet. I fired 4 torps against BB Mutsu but they missed ( would have been dud anyway so what gives ).

more news when ole Xarg sents a turn - promised ! [:'(]

Xargun captured Canton Island.

he caught a few Mine hits there as I dropped over 1000 of them there. but the hits were only made on minor ships ( MSW, PG ).

I have a few screenshots ready to post so you guys can get an update of the situation as on early may 42. the pics are a bit censored due to security reasons.

his KB is east of Canton/ Pago Pago, again convoy busting.

japanese troops land at Merak, W of Batavia ! Before the landinig occured, they smashed Batavia AF to rubble, me unable to prevent that and now I am unable to launch my bombers / torpedo planes.

he landed at Sorong as well. I was informed about that by allied Sig Intel some 2 weeks ago. but there was nothing I could do against it except sending a few subs for a lucky shot.

Well... well.. looks like Oli has some nice photos... too bad several of them were days old when he posted them.. but then I'm sure he is hiding the locations of his near-useless subs and naval foces..

So far his subs have not scored any real hits on anything important - at least not that I remember. He has put some torps into smaller ships and merchies, but I don't believe anything has sunk.. Except maybe 1 Tanker he got. Oh well... My subs (what few are left) have been relegated to a more of a raider group or recon. Although some are still sitting near ports looking for a nice fat target... but the allied ASW is just to damn good to sit still to long or to close to a base.

In the air his AVG is still mauling my zeros in china and I still can't believe it. I have 2:1 odds with probably even experienced men and he still mauls me 10:1 on kills.. That just is not right. The P-40B is not that much better than a zero... I just don't see how it can be....  That and his damn heavies flying from India is making my movement north from Rangoon a pain. I can't get anything built north of Rangoon, as his heavies come in and smash everything... My fighters (both Oscars and Zeros) will damage a few bombers, but rarely shoot any down... and he keeps hammering my airfields.. Argh !!!! Can't wait for the Tojo to come online... I need bigger guns in Burma....

Indonesia is mine.. the Dutch just don't know it yet... Once I get a landing at Merak Batavia will fall quickly and then within 2 weeks the rest of the island... The men that took Malaysia are itching to kick some Dutch butt now that the british are gone. Lots of men are eager... something like 50k are eager to prove their honor to the Imperial Seat... and I will let them :)

Amboina and Sorong are mine now and bombers at Amboina and hammering the retreating dutch troops from there daily.. Easy experience and when I do attack the other base on the island the remaining troops will be completely combat ineffective.

I have landings in New Guinea and some men ashore, but the Austrialian Air Force (B-25s and B-26s) are bombing me daily and I can't project any air power there yet so he has a free reign for now... Rabaul is isolated and the men there have to be near starving now. I also have the Shortlands and Lunga. Both are building nice airfields for me for the upcoming battle of the Solomons... I expect late '42 to have some major battles in this area as Oli can't let me keep the Solomons if he wants to push north from Oz.

Canton Island is a nice base... I like.. I think I'll park a division there and keep it for the rest of the war. Build it up to a level 9 fort and I just might be able to hold it that long unless he really wants it back.. But once the AF is neutralized the base is useless to me - except for recon and subs.

A group of IJN CVs hit Pago Pago and its adjoining islands, just saying hi to the men there and reminding them that they live at my sufference.. The CVs then went East and found 5 AKs by themselves carrying what the computer called the 1st Naval Construction Battallion (no idea unless I read it wrong) and sunk it. Merchies sure don't like torpedoes... Then I went a bit further East and found another TF of 2 APs and 3 DDs.. They tended to dodge torpedoes a bit better, but 250 kg bombs ripped them apart. So far all DDs are sunk along with 1 AP.. But I'm sure the other AP is sunk, reports show 4 torps hitting it.. Apparently they were carrying men of the 32nd USA/C Division... Oh well.. more allies in the drink.

In China the fighting is slow.. as I perform several large artillery strikes per day. My arty strikes are hammering Yenen, Hengchow and now Wuchow. I will post a screenshot or two soon showing the chinese theatre in depth and how I have like over 20 chinese units trapped between Yenen, Hengchow and Wuchow.. And this does not even count the dozen or so just NW of Canton that are trapped on the rail line. I am now performing my last movements to make sure these units never escape... the points from them will be huge !!!

Oh well time to sign off.. I must comment that my oil / resources at home (and abroad) are in good shape - and every couple days TFs arrive with Oil / resources. The bad news is that its 3 months until I get new fighters and even longer before more combat units arrive... I have tons of base forces which are just now arriving at locations. I will begin building up 2nd line bases to use once my perimeter is breached. I am also starting to stockpile important engines (Mitsubishi and Nakajima) for use in the future when I have no HI or engine factories to build them. I hope to accumulate at least 3-4 months 'extra' engines by that time. I am also stockpiling armament and such for the eventually US heavy strikes... But right now without a major sortie by Oli I will 'win' the game in January '43 by points... I will chalk up the 'win' and then try to survive his counterattacks....

I haven't seen an allied CV in like 3 weeks, since the Yorktown (I believe it was her) appeared briefly near Canton and then fled when he realized I still had CVs in the area. Not sure why.. If he caught the right CVs it would be a near even fight as my naval pilots are not all highly skilled anymore... I'm sure I would sink his CV(s), but he could do some good damage back.. but he left...  I believe they are all hiding... in Pearl, the West Coast or maybe in OZ... It is almost time for his refits, so he may be rotating them home to large repair yards for the refits...

Speaking of refits its coming time for my CVs and my DDs have been refitting for a month+ now.. I like their new AA configuration... but it will only give me parity for a few months until his DDs/CAs upgrade and then they will be way ahead again... oh well..  Time to sign off.. I'll post more later.

my surface raiders have been detected. I withdraw them.

the CV group east of pago pago is gone away hiding somewhere but unknown to me where they are hiding.

lost 3 wellingtons, so far xarguns best result againsgt my heavies in burma. reason : group was tired and this was the airgroup I forgot to set on rest...[8|]. when I saw the combat replay I wondered becasue I didnt expected them to fly....no wonder that they got caught, they were tooo tired...

Xargun sent in another turn.

I regained contact on that CV group that hit my transports. they are @ NE 660 SM away from Pago Pago Island.

I checked out why xargun has problems with AVG

reasons are simple : half of them are still veterans from the beginning of the game, exp over 80's [:)]

the rest : high 60's pilots. xargun gave me enough opportunities to gain exp. so for me, it is no surprise. he sents airgropus in with no exp. only 20% of his pilots there are good pilots. the rest is beta or so. no wonder that they got smashed and this results in high exp. points gained by my reserve pilotas in AVG.

he got goodenough island. OK, those 70 men there are poor strangers. they will strave from malaria sooner or later, I wish you big fun there.

here is the next CBR

another slow turn goes by.

at yenen, the so called encircled troops were once again a victim of this land unit movement errors in this game.

they were first ordered to mach to a certain hex on the map containg no base, the hex was freindly and the way was clear and lead through 'A' marked occupied & controlled by allied forces areas.

guess what happend ? right, nothing. not a single mile travled in 2 days, despite the fact that the order was accepted.( and the way is free ! )

2nd try.
I ordered it to a base. for this, the LCU needed to go around of the enemy LCUs.

the movemt order and the units display screen showed it correct. they had to head SW to go around as the enemy is located N.

and now : it marched exactly in the direction TOWARDS ( N ) the enemy LCU and stands still at 59 MILES marching towards direction N , one mile in front of the enemy units they stand still. NICE.

all the effort done so far to rescue the units is wastet.

sorry, LCU movement behaviour is utter bs in this game .

Batavia and Tilijap (sp?) are bombed by the japanese. Batavia AF is out of flight abilities. a part of KB is seen ESE of Canton Isl.

Part of the problem is that if the unit is attacked via air or artillery they rarely move that turn... and since I have been lobbing arty shells in Yenen for over a month, those troops are pretty much stuck there.

The land movement is tricky and works very strangely. It will say moving NW and then move E on you. The routines look for the shortest distance one time and then the quickest route the next. As long as there are no enemy units around the movement routine seems to work great.. but once enemy LOCs start appearing, it goes downhill quickly - I almost never use long-range march commands once near the front... I always move 1 hex at a time unless I'm moving directly to a base along a road or railway.

Glad to hear it about Batavia [:'(] Sure took long enough... Now if my troops can only do something at Merak against your men... Batavia is mine... the Dutch just don't realize it yet.

The weather is really hurting my advances in China as thunderstorms and rain have been everywhere for the past 2 weeks, grounding most of my airforce. Once the weather clears, I will leap ahead.. unfortunately a bunch of chinese troops may escape because of the poor weather [:(]

Repairs and refits of IJN ships is going great - my DDs are refitting and being repaired in like a week at my large repair yards and the ARs I built are helping them along quickly. Even the few capital ships that have been damaged are repairing nicely. The bulk of the ships being repaired are DDs with their new ASW and AA upgrades - a couple even have radar now ... I like that and they are being rushed to the front to help with CV TFs.

Well one of my TFs screwed up and it cost me. I had a small TF covering the Amboina invasion and decided since Amboina was safely pacified it was time to look at Kendari - one of the few major DEI bases Oli still owns. So I sent the TF - which had a couple IJN BBs in it [:D] - towards Kendari. Last turn it moved within sprinting range of Kendari and I set it up for a boom and scoot - night time bombardment and retreat. So the TF moves to Kendari and night and does nothing.... Then for some unknown reason it heads west for Balikpapin instead of returning eastward towards Amboina. So come daylight the TF is sitting 200 miles west of Kendari and 600+ miles from LR CAP assigned to it. So needless to say, the zeros assigned to LR CAP cannot reach it and the dutch planes from Kendari - which should have been hammered by the nighttime bombardment (which did not go off) spotted the TF and attacked.. Luckily the dutch didn't field too many planes, but they managed to get in a couple torpedo hits on my BBs. I don't mind getting ships damaged accomplishing (or trying to accomplish) a mission, but not like this... and not large BBs that will take months to repair. ARGH [:@]

Good news in Burma.. its been 2 whole days without any allied HBs bombing the heck out of my bases. The engineers that are still alive are managing to put the airfields back together - not that I will use them anyways.. I may have to pull the troops out - tired of wasting supplies fixing airfields I won't ever be able to use anyways.

INDUSTRY INSIGHTS

Well I have been messing around with my industry output over the last 10 turns or so and it seems to be paying off. I currently only have like 4 armored units in the field and hundreds of replacement tanks in the pool. So I have halted all vehicle production to save HI and resources. I have also halted production of a bunch of aircraft of which I have 200+ surplus in the pool - these aircraft are suffering very light losses and I will save HI and engines by not building a ton of them. I will begin production again once the pool is much lower or I expect heavy losses to begin - which in 6 months they will, but I am trying to conserve all Industrial Production as much as possible for future use. On the positive side my HI pool is increasing substantialy - over 45k surplus.

I am now looking indepth to my engine production. Currently I have factories for 5 engines types - the only 5 I will use. I am now decreasing Mitsubishi production and increasing Nakajima as more and more planes will be using them. I also have a stockpile of Kawasaki and another engine type (forget what it is but it will be used in a couple months by some new planes and I want a starting stockpile).

I am also altering my aircraft production - increasing some production while completely changing to other types as well. I know I cannot win the WAR (except by points) but I want to give Oli a run for his money until 44 or so. And to do this I need the best tools I can make, in as great of numbers as I can get. Plus I am still learning a lot about the Japanese economy (in game) and that will help me in future games as well.

On the naval production side I am running full production for like 5 turns which gives me a surplus of 1000 points or so, then I halt the Tokyo shipyard for several days allowing it to drop back down. This allows me to save even more HI while maintaining my production of warships.

Supply / Fuel

Well my levels of Supply / Fuel in the Home Islands is finally getting low - below a couple hundred thousand total. I have been shipping it off all over the place - especially to the front lines like the DEI and South Pacific. My main forward bases have 100k of each stockpiled and while that sounds like a lot, I know that capital ships suck down fuel a lot and it takes a lot of supply to keep my units in fighting shape so I'm not sure how long it will last. I'm not too worried, as I will have 6 months to rebuild my supply before Oli makes any large scale counterattacks, so I plan on stripping the Home Islands as much as possible.

The biggest supply problem I am facing is in China. I have plenty of supply for my troops and aircraft, but not always enough to get replacement aircraft in a timely manner. I have several airgroups assigned to the Chinese Theater that are below full strength and its hard to get them resupplied. Many of the larger bases in the area that have enough supplies are either a non-chinese HQ base (therefore I can't transfer to it) or they have little to no AV support, which means if I transfer in I may not be able to transfer them all out again - especially the replacements that show up damaged. I haven't found a good solution to this yet and I'm not sure if I want to waste my limited PPs on changing their HQ just to increase the replacement rate.

Well not much more to report so I will sign off...
