Done! I've got a workable Communist PO!

I submitted "ALTERNATIVE WORLD WAR for TOAWIII-Communist PO v1.0" to the Games Depot and Rugged Defense.
Will be available soon (I hope[;)])

Excellent. I'll take a look at this when I get the chance.

If you want, you can also upload the scenario on the SZO scenario depot. Your scenario will be available in a couple of minutes rather than a few days.

http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forum ... o=cat&id=6

You won't have to wait for someone to make the upload and you can write the introductory text exactly as you want it to appear.

N.B. it'd also have to be if I want, since it's my scenario he's modding.

Mind you, I can't see any constructive reason to withold the scenario from other depots. Upload away.

My apologies that I overlooked the basics of courtesy.
GD, I emailed you.

The modded scenario is available in the SZO downloads section

No apology necessary. I was just posting that there are alternatives to uploading to Apple Boy’s preferred site. As usual, Apple Boy finds a need to take exception . . .

No apology necessary.

Well, by uploading to Rugged Defence, Silvanski was just putting up another version of a scenario which was already there, which is fine. The scenario wasn't previously on WHQ at all, so that's different.

And as usual, you find a need to be rude about it- despite my agreement.

Screenie from earlier playtesting... 24 Nov 1939 and the German/Polish line is bound to be breached... It's the turn when French and British units activate...
Herr Hitler will need them...

Looks like you did a pretty good job here- also gratifying to see some sort of balance achieved. Could we get some more screenshots if you keep going with the test?

Thanks GD.
About the balance: I didn't let the Soviets unleash their forces "en masse" from turn 1 ... activation on different turns and setting different axis of advance seems to do the trick here... I wanted it to be a war of escalation...
This is possible in scenarios with many formations.

I'll post an AAR later. Although I know where each Communist formation is going to it's not easy setting up a tight defensive screen with the troops the Allies have available in the first few months.

Screenie from 29 Sep 1939 halfway through the turn... those programmed para units do an effective job in disrupting the German rear, tying up several units...

I'm testing v1.1 in which I set reconstitution to "fixed"

This means that units will try to reconstitute in or near their formation HQ's first objective hex, provided it's not been overrun or enemy controlled... The 1st objective can be set further back, but for the Polish I kept their HQ's original hex so many Polish units will not reconstitue and appear in the formation report as "eliminated" Poland has less manpower available... Units that do reconstitute represent stragglers which have been able to reorganize themselves...
Now here's an interesting situation...

27 October 1939....
During its advance through southern Poland, the Communist PO declined to clear all hexes. (this might be prevented by setting the second wave of formations to "screen"...)

This enabled several Polish -mainly small broken up- units to reconstitute...
Although individually weak, they had room to manoeuver and disrupt the Communists' rear...
It forced Elmer to pull 2nd Ukrainian out of the frontline to clear up the mess caused by these Polish stragglers...
This eased the pressure on the southern section of the front... The Communists could have been in Bratislava by now which would have opened the door towards Vienna and Bavaria...

The formation on the east side of the border is 3rd Ukrainian set to activate at a later date for the invasion of Hungary and Romania... I made sure not to come near them with any Polish unit as not to prematurely activate them... don't wake a sleeping dog...

2 October 1939 - turn 9
Worrying events on the central sector...
In order to fill the gaps caused by Communist attacks between Lodz and Czestochowa, and northwest of Warsawthe German army had to enter its last reserves.
If the Communists make a succesful breakthrough they'll reach Berlin in a few weeks.
With France still not activated (will do so on turn 12), things look bleak for the Germans.

Sure!
Here we are on turn 28 / 9 March 1940.
Screenie: Stalemate in Western Poland thanks to French involvement, but to the south Romania and Hungary have been invaded... Romania is hard to defend and I expect Bucharest to fall in a week or two... The Hungarian army has better defensive options.

Middle East... massive Soviet formations ran over the tiny Iraqi army and stormed towards the Mediterranean... an amphibious operation saw some units land on Cyprus...
The French were able to ship the units that defeated Spain to Palestine.

Formerly known as WHQ- I try to stick with the oldest name possible in the vain hope they'll return to it.

Thanks for these screens, Silvanski. It's really great to see the scenario in action.
