While we waiting

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

While we waiting

Post by Hard Sarge »

been running some stuff, and thought I would show one of the ideas or tricks that can be set up with the Sweep command

in the past, one of the complaints was the the Allied planes broke off and headed home, there was not really much you could do to protect them

well one thing you can do with a sweep now is to plot it where you want it to go (and can also move it after it gets to where you want it to go, like a 2nd target command) and it will sweep the area and then go into a simi patrol mode

in this shot, you see 3 raids that are going to cross the coast but head towards different targets, but there back path should be some what the same, but a different times

I have also plotted 6 sweeps to come in behind them and stop short of the coast, trying to time there take off with the time that the bombers should be hitting there targets, if all works right, they should be in place, just as the bombers begin to cross the coast on the return (the sweeps are simi staggered to give more coverage in the area)

of course this is a little hit and miss, but when it works, it works nice

also the same idea can be used to set up a escourt route along the bombers path

Thanks

well the idea and the plan worked, but my 47s still took it on the chin, looked like all the sweeps got into action, of course, some lost planes, or had planes damaged but others got jumps and plan attacks in and did there job

Lost Blakeslee, and Col Anderson and another Ace from the 4th, 56th lost a couple, but Robert Johnson got his 4th kill

as long as the 47s are in range, they are deadly :)

Hi,

question for a feature (just tell me if it's imposible) but would it be possible to have a small time (eta) written at each of the significant points of the mission, like inbound, initial, over target, exit point etc. right on the planning map ???

so will get back to work in the Med

I have pretty much cleaned out Sardina, so will try and take out the toe of the boot, the GE does not want to leave the area, finally getting my heavies into the action

these raids are really over kill

the air in the south is not a safe place

Lets see, lead off with a B-17 raid on Contone, with all my 38s in tow, then some sweeps move around, English 20s hits the south AF, follow a little later with some B-25s from the 12th, the A-20s of the 12 will hit the middle base

got all the Balts with Spit VIII and IXs headed deeper, the Axis have some 2005 based there and they been a hassle, mossies will fly along after them, to see what they can see

I want to send out my P-40s on field sweeps, but the targets are not sure and the flak is getting heavy, and I would rather kill a few planes and not take major losses then to kill a few planes and take heavy losses

Okay, been running and seeing what I can see (fixed some things already, but will not show up)

show off some of my good guys

my top 38 unit, don't know if they are good or lucky, but they been kicking for a while, of course, most of there battles have been over Sardina, which means a lot of lesser planes to fight for combat

finally starting to get some of my reinforcements coming in, it is 9-2-43 and IT has dropped out of the war (looks like the AI did good on there die roll and was able to keep some of the Units ! last missions, I seen 2 Re 2001s, 1 MC 200 and 1 SAI 207)

this is a shot of my 47s

short range they are murder, longer range they get hammered, so the trick is, to not let the LW come in strong, or with lots of gas in there tanks

Take that info with a grain of salt, first two missions, I ran into lots of training units, 3rd mission, only a Gruppen of 110s made it to the raid, so early numbers were very oneside, last few missions, much more even (the LW has moved it's units around and is able to start massing)

New to the forum, haven't gotten through all of the posts so pardon if this has been covered or is OBE.

Can we get more control over unit mission behavior during Allied fighter sweeps (I guess that leaves it wide open for intelligent donkey responses...)? It would be nice to disallow strafing balloons and airfields if the intent of the sweep is to augment the "in the air" part of the effort. I frequently use RAF assets over the channel to de-louse returning US strikers. I would love to extend their coverage inland but they always seem to find a balloon, airfield, railway or other low altitude target to go after. One unit repeatedly strafed an unoccupied airfield on its route until all of the attackers were lost to ground fire, ignoring the enemy fighters airborne on their path. Not normal pre-Monty Python RAF behavior. In real life the mission and intent would be briefed...it would be nice to have a "check the box" similar to German fighter tactics that tailor the unit's priorities and makes them more predictable.

howdy

well, with the more wp's it is easier to place the sweep where you want it to, so better placement, you should be able to avoid some of this

also we got some code in that should stop the repeated straffing runs

the idea you are saying, is what is the main idea behind the sweep, set up some sweeps on the back tracks of the bomb raids and they should interfer with the GE hunters

but, as of right  now, nothing on buttons or doc changes for how sweeps work
