Hi, after early USN CV raids I decided to position my CV in order to intercept any further attempts. I had TF unloading Tulagi and Lunga. IJN CV were deposed in 3 TF with 2 CV each the CVL being added to TF containing Kaga and Akagi. (Nagumo)
Enemy CV appear to have all been in single TF (since 5 were attacked by single Japanese strike) USN strike hit TF with Kaga and Akagi. enemy escorts suffered heavy loss but 2/3s of the bombers reached TF.
(86xA6M2 flying CAP) All Japanese CV/CVL in TF suffered hits with BB also being hit.
IJN counter strikes reported to have sunk 4 of the enemy CV with various CA/CL also taking hits.
Enemy air loss reported to exceed 300 (200 A2A aqnd 130+AAA/OPS) Japan lost over 100 AC as well.
The final outcome depends now on condition of damaged Japanese CV/CVL

My only gripe is that most of the 1000 pound bombs that hit Akagi and Kaga bounced off.

I am suggesting that the air losses looked apalling, meaning many more aircraft could have survived to attack..and fly back to a carrier for another strike.

Just my humble opinion.

Hi, The 1000lb bombs did not bounce off. 4 IJN CV/CVL lost flight ops (groups transfered to lunga)If for example this battle had been fought off PH I doubt any of the damaged ships would make it to a friendly port. Too soon for me to say what the final cost will be.

Not so. The majority of the bomb hits on Akagi and Kaga scored "hits", without penetration. The very definition of "bounced off".

If that qualifies as an accurate simulation, then today we would all be driving Japanese cars!
