RE: A devious plan...

I see you've discovered my devious plan - allow the Japanese to become over-confident by losing large capitol ships early...

Thanks - I meant to send her to hex 23,55 (one hex to the right of her start location) to be able to contest landings at either Mersing or Kuching on turn 2. Patrol/do not retire, auto-disband on, react 0, home port still Singers. That's potentially in Nell torpedo range from Kompong Som, but I'll take my chances on that. I've hardly ever seen them fly that far.

nice...forgot about the naval reaction rule.

btw..do you have Scotts email?

Here's some of my 1st turn moves (in white), and where i eventually want to send troops (in yellow)

btw...i Spent 312 PPs last turn. I will still need another 300-400 to complete my reshuffel of forces in the DEI

As you can see Chuck, i've rerouted that AP-AMC near Signapore to pick up troops at Singkep. I figure, since its an Australian ship, its well within my authority [:D]

I don't have Scott's e-mail. I think Mike (1eyedjacks) does, however.

I'm fine you using the AMC. Were you going to grab just the infantry battalion there or also the base force? I like using SIngkep to fly LRCAP for ships going into Singapore.

The Infantry on the 1st run....but then will be back to pick up the BF. I'm trying to get as many engineers as possible to Balikpapan, Palembang, and Soerabaja, as those 3 bases acount for about 1/2 of the oil production in the SRA. I hoping that my engineers will be able to take out the majority of the oil in those area's.

Let the fun begin [:'(]

Sent Enterprise and company towards Wake for some target practice. Lexington is on her way towards Pago Pago for the time being. Task forces 1221, 1222, 1223 are moving towards Ambonia. Plans to upgrade VMF 221 to F4F-3s. Will make a decision for VMF 211 on Wake whether to evacuate or not, depending on how the landings go. Plans to evacuate eng units from Philippines. Need to make a decision to evacuate Asiatic and USAFFE commands. What do you guys thing?

Lucky for you, tonight it's just me

IMO i say evac the Asiatic Fleet, as it will help with repairs, but keep the USAFFE there, as you can use it to position supplies.

btw...which ships are in TF 1221, 1222, 1223?..i couldn't find them

Bah - no turns tonight. [:(] Well, it's given me some more time to prep for this game.

Malaya

My plans are still up in the air & will depend on what the Japanese do, to a large degree. If they try to cut off the peninsula towards the south I'll fight it desparately & then do a Sir Robin if I don't succeed.

I suspect a conventional offensive - in which case I'll stage a fighting withdrawal & try to hold at Singapore as long as possible. If that's the case I'll do my best to hold until at least March 15th, damn the losses.

Burma

Also a little up in the air. I certainly plan on fighting for Mandalay hard, to keep the Burma Road open as long as possible. If the initial Jap offensive against Burma is light, I may try to hold at Moulmein. I'll decide in a week or two.

India

There's nowhere near enough troops to defend everything, and while there's 4 Indian divs they're only at 29% strength. I have 8 brigades - 6 at 86% strength & 2 at full strength. 4 armored units, also very low strength.

1 Div & 1 of the big tank units are going to each of Madras & Calcutta. Hopefully they'll fill out quickly, as that's where I'll also send the India & SEA HQs. 1 Div also to Bombay & Dacca.

At Vizgapatam I'll form a reserve that can be sent either to the Madras area or the Calcutta/Dacca area should an invasion occur. This will include the 2 100% infantry brigades & 2 of the armored units.

I'll probably turn off replacements on a bunch of units to allow a few to build up strongly but I haven't decided exactly how to do that yet.

I can't cover every base, but the northeast frontier will get 2 brigades to counter-attack any potential paradrops in that area.

Not shown on the map - Karachi & Colombo each get a brigade in defense:

Kenny -

I looked a little closer at what base forces I need to try to evac:

6 RN base forces (with a couple CD guns each) - 1 at Hong Kong, 3 on Borneo, 2 on Malaya. 1 of those on Borneo (Pontianak) is ABDA command, and I assume you plan to use it (not a problem). Of the remaining 4 I'm going to try to send 1 to Pakhoi. I'll send 1 to Palembang as it has no CD defense, but I want to send the other 3 to India so I can have some CD guns covering my currently undefended coastal bases. Of course, that assumes that I can evacuate all of them.

5 RAF base forces are in Malaya. I'm going to send one to Singkep Island (if you don't mind me using your base), to provide LRCAP for TFs near Singapore. Once Singapore falls it's yours to do what you want with, assuming it's still alive. The other 4 are yours, as far as I'm concerned. BTW, I'd like to also base Buffalos at Bankha on occasion for LRCAP duties covering transports.

That leaves me 4 big base forces - MAF Aviation & the three Indian States Forces base units. I'll have plenty of aviation support in India soon, so I don't need them desparately, but the ISF units also have an infantry component in their TOE which will help me with anti-para defenses.

Thinking out loud again - either you or Scott can certainly have MAF Aviation, but don't pull it until I say it's ok. I'll decide shortly about the ISF units.

BTW, I have 6 barges at Singapore. I'd like to use them in a run between Singapore & Palembang. Evacs -> Palembang, supplies -> Singers.

Scott -

What do you think about sending me a couple Combat Engineer Regiments? You can have them back as soon as you need them, but I think I can put them to good use in China meanwhile.

18th CBT Engineer in Seattle. 19th CBT Engineer in San Francisco. It would cost about 250 PPs to change their HQ to China & send them on their way to Chungking.

I don't know exactly how I want to attack in China, yet. But I definitely intend an offensive in North China. If you send them I'd like one prepping for Yangku and another for Chengting.

Again, I'd send them back as soon as you need them, but that probably won't be for a while. And you have other combat engineer units you can use in the meantime.

By the end of '43, or earlier, I hope to have a bomber base within 500 miles of the coast of Japan. I'm not sure I can do it at all, but certainly not without some combat engineers.

if you really want LRCAP cover from Singkep Is. I'll leave my BF there, and instead take a RAF BF from Malaya to Palembang via air transport (just tell me which one). That way, we don't have to spend any PPs, and we both get what we want...you a base force at Singkep, me another base force at Palembang.

i desperately need it. I only get 1 Aviation Rgt, and 1 Base Force (90 AV pts) during the 1st 6 months in Australia. In fact, can you spare one of your arriving Aviation Rgts in India also?

Good idea. (Why didn't I think of that? [:'(]) If you want to start immediately take the 113th from Malacca, though I'd prefer to wait a turn or 4 to see how the Jap offensive is progressing.

Okay - MAF Aviation is yours. We should wait a bit before pulling it out as I still need to base planes at Singapore.

Re: sending an aviation regiment that arrives in India. I'd like to, but I don't want to say for sure yet. Admiral of the Fleet Lord Angus is a self-interested SOB. [:'(] I'd like to see how the game develops for a month or two. I'm well aware of how short Aus is of AV support, but so is China. And if an early invasion against India develops I'd like a dozen bases capable of flying offensive missions against the Japs. For now I'd like to say probably, but give me a month or two.

No turn in my inbox... so thought i'd go over my defense of Australia.

Darwin Area - need 540 PPs
I'm very concern about a Japanese invasion in this area. The area contains no self sufficient supply, thereby needs supply by sea. Moving troops overland is almost impossible, due to the fact there is no railway connecting Darwin to the East Coast of Oz. In light of this i intend to concentrate defense on Darwin and Katherine only. The 3 BF's from Broome, Derby, and Whydam will need to be withdrawn to Darwin and Katherine, where the engineers will proceed to build up the bases to handle bombers. Unfortunately they will require a PP change (170 PPs), as moving over the trail would take too much time. I intend to move the 1st Aus Div on the first day from Sydney to beef up the defenses in the area, but it will take about 4 months to reach Darwin. In the meantime i hope to release the 12th Aus Bde from Tazmania (340 PPs) and an Arm Rgt from Sydney (25 PPs) to boast the defense of the area. If i can get those units to Darwin, i may be able to release the 23rd Aus Bde currently at Darwin to boast the defense of Port Moresby, or perhaps be sent to Soerabaja. It would require no PP's change.

Perth Area - need 60 PPs
I've always thought it makes sense for the Japanese to take Perth as it effectively cuts off Australia from India. In light of that, i will move the 7th Aus Div when it arrives at Aden in 68 days down to Perth to secure that vital port. I'll also need to release a BF from Tazmania (60 PPs), and will send down that CD-unit from Geraldton, to further boast the defense of Perth. I will also send an Arm Rgt, and BF from Sydney to Albany to further increase the defense in the area.

Sydney Area
Intend to keep defense somewhat light here, as i doubt the Japanese will venture that far. 1 Div and 2 Bdes will be responsible for the bases Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne

Charter Towers Area - 60 PPs needed
Will keep defense heavy in the area with a command HQ, 2 Div, and 3 Bdes. 3 BF (1 from Tazamania, 60 PPs) will be sent to Cairns to start building up that base for bomber operations.

Port Moresby Area - 570 PPs needed
I plan an aggressive defense of Port Moresby. I hope to withdrawl the units at Lae, Rabual, and Kavieng to PM (will cost 60 PPs). I will also like to send reinforcements from the mainland in the form of 1 Motor Bde, 1 Arm Rgt, 1 Inf Btn, this will only cost 150 PPs. Further more, i hope to reinforce Thursday Is in the near future with a Inf Bde, which will cost 360 PPs, but this isn't as urgent.

Things i need
As you can see i need about 1200 PPs (and another 400 PPs for the Dutch). So i hope i can get the majority of the PP's early on, so i can move my isolated units, and reinforce crucial bases, so that the japanese can't cut me off and destroy everything easily in detail

Also as stated before i desperatly need Aviation support troops. The MAF will help, but i could also use the PAF, and perhaps a AV Rgt from India [:D]. I'm also in desperate need of Engineers, as i have lots of potential level 5 airfields that need to be built up, and i only get 1 EAB in the 1st 6 months. Scott, if you can spare some EABs or Sea Bees, it will be greatly appreciated.

Things i Don't Need
as of now, i don't need the 6 Australian Inf Div that will arrive at Aden in 89 days, so feel free to use it Chunk in a defense role only, as i don't want my boys getting beat up on some Churchill adventure [:D]
